Halloween Blooms....

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I love having a bouquet of these on the kitchen table. They smell great all day and night. I just picked the darker ones, but the lighter ones were picked yesterday. They don't seem to change color once picked. This is Golden Lady, and yes, the color is as shown. Very yellow/orange. I've had this one two years and this is the first time it has gone this color. Maybe the cold is causing it. Today we are in the upper forties.

Oh Brugie,

I love your Halloween blooms! Your pic is great and the color is so pretty!

Brugie--absolutely stunning. And Golden Lady that really tops it off.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm getting fonder and fonder of the yellow and gold ones. At this rate, pretty soon, my Old Faithful Gold will be my favorite. LOL

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Shirley, that is lovely! I hope to see my Golden Lady bloom next year.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

I love these bouquets. Whenever I pick blooms the wilt up and look awful. Is there a special time they should be picked?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Sue, I can't get singles to hold in a vase, but the doubles do pretty well. Have never paid any attention to when I pick them. The darker ones were picked after lunch. I think I picked the lighter ones around noon yesterday. We are getting down to 36 degrees tonight and when it is that close to freezing, I don't take a chance. Moved a few into the garage for safe keeping and they will winter there. Still have about 5 more to move, but I'm out of room and will have to do some serious trimming to bring them in. At least I'll have blooms to smell for a couple of days and this weekend it will be back to near 80 degrees. What a mixed up year!!

Brugie, Golden Lady certainly knows what month she can really show off! What a Happy Halloween Brug she is!
Thanks so much for sending Goofy to LaLa Land for our So Cal RU. I need to take him to the Polo Lounge for a drink and a photo op! I know he'll love the pink & green bananna leaf wallpaper. Hey, he might even find a girlfriend in the trees or at the bar! When he goes back to his daddy, he may even bring a wife.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Brugie, I am really liking these bouquet shots. I never would have guessed that this was GL. I was sure it was going to be double peach. So very pretty!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Bambi, did he really get there already?
Kell, I can tell you for sure that Double Peach would not stand up in a glass of water. Way too much weight in that bloom.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I wish I was sitting at he table with you,not to smell them,I have a blooming little tree next to me now,I just enjoy talking with you!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Ahhhhhhhhhhh, Root loves ya Brugie!

I have never seen a double peach. Is it like the creamsickle in size? I wonder if they are from the same pod?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Kell, it isn't quite as big as Creamsickle, but pretty darned close. The plants don't have the same growth habits either, or I was just lucky. Double Peach is nice and tall/straight and Creamsickle wants to grow like a bush here, but with one trunk. It kind of rambles. Might just be the cutting though.

Dang Doc, I have to go out and smell the brugs by myself these days. It is easier to just bring some to the table.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Kell, you should have been there!!!!Looked like a couple bees going plant to plant and back again, more then once the statment came up,how we would love to be doing the same in your backyard!!!So you were thought of!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh you two love me also!

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

Brugie, Creamsickle grows in bush form for me also. Stays about 4-5' tall and sprawls outward.
Before I lost my Golden Lady (not begging-have replaced it. LOL) the blooms were more yellow than orange. Don't know if it is heat or what. Love the color of your and again the bouquet is wonderful.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Barb, I can send you one in the spring when I send your ear. That is if I can find enough light to keep it going through the winter. Maybe I'll just take some cuttings and slip them in a bubble mailer and send to you now. No big deal.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

My Creamsickle is a tall tree. It does get side shoots but I cut them off. It also has gotten 2 - 6ft suckers that I have not cut off yet. But it is basically a tall standard shape. It just grew that way.

My GL is almost always creamy white, one was peachy. I like it white but I would not mind if it changed back and forth, gives it more interest that way.

Root,
Goofy misses his daddy. Time to put the animals & me to bed!

Beautiful flowers! In almost ten years, I have seen Golden Lady only once showing color.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Monika, I had never seen it in the two years I've had her until this fall when it got cool. Wish she would look like this all the time. Your seedling is doing very well now too. No color, but the skirts are dropping nicely. Hope next summer she will show me some apricot color. Would be nice and I can wish anyway.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I hope your wish becomes reality! Any pics Brugie? Sorry if I am driving you crazy.

It must be the very, constant cold that makes GL change color for my GL put out new blooms last week and they were cream. It is getting in the 50's during the night.

She is so big Kell, that she is up in the pine tree. I do have a picture of a single bloom and tomorrow will try to get a view of the whole plant, but not sure that is possible. White Pearl X Big. I guess we need to give her a nice name.

Wow what great tendrils. I hope it colors up for you but if it doesn't it still is pretty and maybe you can cross it with a yellow or orange to get the color to come out. Even white it is lovely.

Mine of this one has such tiny blooms which look kind of silly on such a big sturdy tree. Maybe if it puts out tons of them at one time it won't look so disproportionate.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Shirley, That's a beautiful picture with the black background. It must be nice to have blooms to sniff. LOL

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Terry, I had to toss a couple of the blooms today, but they are still on the kitchen table smelling up the house. I have a Georgenpalais in bloom in the livingroom and it doesn't have any smell to speak of. Not one that I'll be keeping for next year. Monika's smells good too. Oh my, it is going to be a long time without brug blooms and smell. I hate to even think about it. Time to move!!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Shirley, are you using a full vase, with most of the blooms under water?Hope they hold up a day or so more, would be nice to find a way to get the smell into the house more.Without digging a tree and dragging it in!
I do have to say,I have had some Brugs for a few years, this is the biggest one I have seen.
WPxBig is up in the pine,no joke.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I just have them in a glass of water, and yes, the majority of the calyx is under water. Working pretty well. I'll get at least two days out of them and then I'm going to be out picking another bouquet.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

I like this one . . even if it does not get more color in it. The shape is very pretty.
