Brug bloom finally opened! I've been babyin this one protectin it from the frosts.
I have a question for Calalily;
Susie, this is 'Equador Pink'from the ones you sent, but the color doesn't appear to be pink at all, at least not now anyway. It has just fully opened. Will it turn pink later? Also, There is no visible "Y" on the stem that I see. I thought they only started buds after they "Y'ed".
Anywho, ain't it purddy? It has a faint lemony aroma, will that get more "smellable" later?

My Very First...
I did a search around here and found out that EP's are white when they first open, then turn pink.
Now I need answers to my other questions please. ;~)
TC...
Congratulations!!! it's a beauty!
Yes, TC. It starts out white. Sometimes the flowers late in the season don't color up much either. My EP blooms were pale on the last flush compared to the summertime blooms.
The first blooms are always so fun!. You need to go out and smell it at night to see what the fragrance is like.
Cala is taking a break from here so I will answer for her if you do not mind.
It looks like EP to me. My first blooms were very light also and took a few days to color up. After that, they were much more pink. Give it a little time and you may have to wait till spring.
It must be a cutting above the Y to begin with Tcfromky. The can bloom right away.
Congratulations on your first and very beautiful bloom I might add! Do you feel the seduction of it all? LOL
Sorry , Sue when I started replyng no one had answered yet....LOL I guess it took me awhile to get it out.
As far as the scent, I have no idea. Maybe be you have have a great surprise.
Very Nice, too bad you are hooked now!
Thanx Carena, I'm new at brugs. But after I joined DG and saw how beautiful the blooms are I got bit by the bug and now, thanks to Susie, I'm addicted!
poppysue; all my brugs are in the garage, except for this one. It's inside the house where it's warm because I wanted to relish the sight of it's bloom!
So, does this mean that I won't get the true aroma?
TC...
I agree with Kell,tc,you may not get the smell out of this bloom, but next year you may really have a show on your hands!I had not seen EP in bloom,so the first time it was a treat to just see this great looking flower.I hope next year it is a treat on your eyes and nose!
You should get some fragrance from it in the house, TC. I can't recall how strong the EP is. My DH claims he can never smell the blooms. Sometimes I can smell them from several feet away.... DH can stick hin nose in the flower and still claim he doesn't smell anything.
Poppysue,I did not know this, the smell comes from the whole flower, you can tear the skirt off,and it still smells,I always stick my nose in the flower, always have.(Always will.LOL!)
I can smell them from far away,do you think,it is not such a strong scented flower, but the breeze coming around the outside of the bloom, and prolific blooming habit, that makes this plant such a favorite?
Oh and a great looking bloom!
kell, root, and poppy; thanks for all the good info here!
Yes, I am difinately a "brugmaniac" now!
TC...
EP is fragrant, but not SUPER fragrant. Yeah, Root, either the dog or the cat knocked the petals off a Shredded White flower, I brought the petals in & kept them next to my computer. They smelled wonderful all that day!
I always thought the smell came from the nector tube deep inside the flower. Beats me tho...
Some brugs just aren't as fragrant as the others... I notice inside the plants fragrance waft through the air right about dusk or right after dark. Almost like they give off a big burst of purfume. After that I don't notice it as much. Maybe because I get used to it.
When I got home from work this morning I could smell the fragrance upstairs from the brugs down in the cellar.
I could handle that Sue. Built in air freshener.
tcfromky, I learned the hard way, this EP does not like the cool temperatures at all so you may want to keep it in the warmth of your house until it can go outdoors again next season. Your garage may get too cool for this particular Brug.
Very pretty picture.
Thanks for the info RA49, I just might go ahead and keep it in through the winter. I have six more different ones out in my garage right now still in pots. I havn't decided if I'm gonna put them all to rest for the winter, some to rest, repot the others and move them inside, or what.
TC...
Yep, you have a genuine "pink" Ecuador Pink bloom and they are pretty, aren't they. Congrats!!
Thanks Brugie! Yes, they are gorgeous! I have Susie (Calalily) to thank for my addiction!
She sent me 7 brug starts this past spring. This is one of those. She teased me after I told her that I had set three of them out in one of my tire planters. This EP is one that was in that tire planter.

Your planters are cool too. Bet the brugs looked great in them.
They never had a chance to bloom in it Brugie, but they sure did grow good!
TC...
But now you know it will bloom! So your hooked,I see a Brug in a tire in your future!
The shape of EP is great,I like this Brug,so glad you got it to bloom!
And get color!
Rt.
Rt. As a matter of fact I had this one and two of my others in a tire planter! They just didn't get a chance to bloom in it because I had to dig them out before we got our first frost.
Next year will be "The Year of the Brugs in the Tire Planters"!
This one is also startin to emit a stronger aroma, and my! does it smell good!
