Just had to post this picture that I took today. Kell sent me this plant last fall. For years I thought I had one only to find out it was Dr. Suess. This one is very photogenic. It is kind of like having a yellow/orange Rosamond.

very interesting, you can tell the difference?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Arlene, my Dr. Suess curled up or recurved and then would straighten out. The blooms were much smaller than these are, and this one doesn't recurve. I don't remember Dr. S. getting as orange either. This plant got quite a bit taller than the DR for a first year plant. I have to say that it doesn't have the great fragrance that Dr. Suess has, but it is a beauty. I'll be keeping this one.

Beautiful Brugie! Thanks for sharing!!

I got to see this plant, very impressive, and after you explained the differences you saw,I agreed, gotta say DS does get dark though, maybe the temps do it?

Great picture Doc.

I don't have CG .... mine is Dr.S. I guess I need one. I never had the real Frosty Pink either. I have so many Frosty look-a-likes I haven't wanted it. Funny how the old tried and trues are always the best. Every time I'm dissapointed is a special new or rare plant, I try to tell myself this. I'm sure I'll forget again when the seed & plant catalogs start rolling in.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Sue I will send you a big piece. Want to wait till spring and give your hubby a break?

I have Dr. Seuss flowering and it is a dark orange also. The flower is smaller though. It was its first 2 blooms, so I can't be sure of its habits yet.

Love your EE Root!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Thanks S,I have been digging for the tag on this one,I think it is in the mulch,it is the color that we saw off of your CG.

Here is yours,I was walking around clicking,as we were treating our noses.
It is way in back, sorry about my camera technique,S can tell you,I am a wild clicker,LOL!
Shiley you have mail.

Brugie: Beautiful photo.

Doc; Your DR photo is beautiful too. I got to smell one of my DR blooms. It smelled like Heaven. Ohh, well there is always next year. Maybe then I will get a full flush of blooms and enjoy the aroma.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Kell, someone is sending me one... I'll give ya a holler if it doesn't work out.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Doc, you are going to have to learn to use the view finder on that camera of yours instead of the point and shoot method. However, you did get some good color on the Butterfly brug.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Beautiful pic, Shirley!

Gee I thought I heard that CG had the strongest scent, was that before DS came along? I can't imagine a scent stronger than DS!

kell, are you sure that's not Big Yella again, lol! Now that was an orange brug! (thanks again, BTW)

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Vi, maybe it is the time of the year, but it really doesn't smell strong right now. I didn't have blooms on it until now, so can't say what it might be like during the summer. I'd be tickled if it would bloom next year with lots of fragrance.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

My CC is very odiferous.

Root my my, your pink is pink all the way up it looks like.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Kell, that is my pink. The picture was taken in my drive where I have all the brugs piled up. It is Butterfly. I'm putting my shoes on and will go check the smell of CG right now. There are so many brugs out there, I'm not sure I can figure out where the smell is coming from.

Okay, I'm back. Smells great. I just haven't been out there after dark. Dang, it was sprinkling and now I'm cold.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

The real CG in Calif didn't have much fragrance either Brugie. Some do smell some don't..a result of genetics. :-)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOl Brugie, you are such a champ! And you sure know how to grow brugs! Can't wait for mine to bloom now to see if it is the same.

Go warm up!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Kell the pic is mine,in Shirleys drive,we were out going from plant to plant, just sniffin.
I held the camera up at head height,or above, and just clicked,I was and still am,just in awe at the beauty!
I could not believe these were seedlings and cuttings.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Gee Shirley, how many times have I made you run out to smell your brugs, LOL! I'm sorry, just get ready to bundle up everytime you see me post ROTFLOL!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

No problem Vi. I needed to find out for myself anyway. Glad I went out there. I learned something.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm glad to see CG is so pretty, because I'm looking for one that is hardy and will live over the Winter here in SA in big pots. Susie told me it was about the heartiest.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Kyle, say it ain't so Joe!

Another is it or isn't it! LOL. Well you would think since I live in Ca it would be the real thing. But I have no clue. It was on the tag when I bought it. They sell it all over here and it always looks like mine. I am not home or I would go out and and smell it. It had tons of blooms when I left. I am sure it has a good fragrance though, or at least I think I am sure!~ LOL

My Charles Grimaldi & Dr. Suess were blooming at the same time. The fragrance seemed the same to me, but CG had noticably larger flowers, & DS had more serrated leaves.
This is CG, sorry for the quality (or lack of).

Think that they're tagged right?

You know I think I have pods on mine, will that help to ID it Kyle?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Kell, the blooms on mine are much bigger than the blooms I had on Dr. S. last year. The fragrance is very close to Suess. I don't care what it is, I love this brug. In fact, I just told my daughter that I was going to send her a cutting of it.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Beautiful picture Shirley.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I guess in the end all our name that brug games means nothing but how we actually like the flower does! LOL. Still it would be nice to know so you could know the parentage. I guess the days of that are over for there are just too many people doing backyard hybridizing and too many similar ones out there.

I am so glad you like it, Brugie. Nice to give a good friend something she likes!
