Overwintering Crinums

Burlington, IA(Zone 5a)

Hello All,

Would anyone have any information on overwintering Crinums in zone 5? I can't seem to find anything, but I'm guessing that I will need to treat them like amaryllis? I don't know if they need a dormant period.

Thanks for any help!

Exactly like Amarylis......dig them up, clean them, and store in a dark, dry place.

Their dormant period is after the leaves die down in the summer and before the flower emerges.

Why not try a couple planted, in the ground, at the base of a south facing wall?

I receieved them in early summer. They have sent up flower spikes at least three times since then. I have two and they both have one baby coming up right beside the mother. Maybe I should leave them in their pots and put them in the coal room of the basement. It would scare to leave them out, they are probably 6-7" across. If they were smaller and I had enough to chance it I would try.

Thanks for your help!

dont take off the babies as these plants thrive being so close together
