What Quick Growth !

OSAKA, Japan(Zone 9b)

Hello bulb lovers,

I planted the bulbs of the winter-flowering lily (Lilium longiflorum, trumpet lily )for the first time this fall.

They were said to have been preserved in a special way.
They were planted on September 19,sprouted in several days ,and were as tall as 30cm on October 8.
What quick growth!
Has anybody else tried this?

definitely some healthy growth there. Here is some information for DG members http://pss.uvm.edu/pss123/fplili.html

Tomtom have you got any contacts for Japanese cultivars of Hepaticas?

OSAKA, Japan(Zone 9b)

Hello,mark

Thank you very much for@sharing@useful info. I plant this crop every year, but now I learn that its flowering time is controlled by several ways by commercial producers.

The bulbs I planted this fall were said to have been preserved frozen for winter-flowering.Today they are as high as 45cm. I also hear that they may flower for the second time during Eastertime if we can grow them well.

I regret to say that I have no direct contacts with Hepatica specialists in Japan, but there is a site which focuses on the preservation of wild Hepaticas.

http://www.ihsj.org/

And this is one of the suppliers of Japanese Hepaticas.

Hi,bulb-lovers!

The lily buds that had seemed unwilling to open because of the cold began blooming in a couple of days after the pots were carried indoors.

With these timely flowers I wish you a very happy new year!

You are posting to a diverse number of subscribers to this forum but most of [us] cannot read japanese.

Do they have any translate/printer-friendly sites?

Thanks.

TVM,Ponditis,frogsrus,kell,and llilyfan.
Lilies in the wintertime aren't bad.
Inside the house is full of the fragrance---a little too full,in fact.

Those are lovely, Tom. I am green with envy that you can have them bloom twice a year.

Thank you,Ponditis, for your compliment .
Having them bloom twice a year is not to my credit, though.
It's just that they are preserved in a frozen way.
This is an extremely wonderful experience and I'm going to
try some other lilies preserved this way this summer.

Tomtom, I would love to know how you are making them bloom twice a year.
