I found lots of red looking seeds inside my old dying ginger blooms, so I saved them. Are these the seeds to grow more gingers, or does anybody know anything about them? I would imagine I will not grow ginger from seeds, cause it would be easier for me to just divide them, but somebody may want them.
Anybody know anything about ginger seeds?
Roz, what gingers were they? I am thinking that they are the Costus sp.if they had red in it. Only a few Costus and Hedychiums will produce seeds that are good.A lot of ginger seeds are sterile. I hand pollinated some of my Costus' this spring and they are finally making seeds..I wanted to send some seeds to a friend out of the country. The seed heads finally made seeds last week, I hope they will work for her. The seeds from the Globba Schomburghkii are very dependable, they will take where ever they fall. I've also had luck this year with seed propagation from the Kaempferia "Grande Peacock". Hope this helps out!
Hey Roz! I was wondering the same thing...first time I ever looked to see what was in there. By the way, how are you doing? Those grandkids keeping you busy?
Hi Lisa and Weeds, the kind of ginger is that white one that is pretty common that smells great. The old blooms are just full of red seeds, and a few bugs too. Connie, those grandkids are making an old lady outta me!!
Ha Roz, I doubt it.....you are full of energy! Bet you can run circles around them...Gotta check my gingers now.
It sounds like the seeds from the white butterfly ginger. Yes, they will grow plants.
Thanks, Rylaff. They are the seeds from butterfly ginger.
