You think it will be ok with this was it going to be bad or need to cut to remove on top?
Thanks Poppysue!

From what I can see, you need to pot those up, they have little roots already, keep the soil moist, not soggy. The top of the Rosamond cutting will die back, but that is ok, it will send up a new shoot.

A agree and loosen the tags or put pot tags in with them. You don't want them to strangle. Poppysue does a great job of labeling and mailing to so many people.

I agree with Tracey, and Brugie, RR. When the top starts to die like on Rosamond, I find it usually dies back to the next node and will stop right there. Then the yellow part will dry up and fall off. I've even had them die back to soil level before and send up a new shoot.

Pot those up as soon as you can. The roots will start to grow once they're in soil.

I had the same problem with rothkirch when I first got it. You talk about someone being worried. I was going into panic mode for a while.
Here I have this expensive very sought after plant and the stupid thing is rotting. I had no idea what I could or should do in order to stop it.
So I called the only person I could think of that might be able to help me. SUSIE!
She asked me if the plant was cut above a leaf node. As it turned out it was. So she told me that when the cutting is cut pretty high above a leaf node as this one was, then everything above that node is going to die because there is nothing there for the plant to support and it will not produce a new leaf.
I'm not sure if I made the first part of this clear. The main part of the plant that did have a green stem growing from it still had several inches of green above it that had no node on it. The plant will not support that and it will die.
Boy was I glad when I found that out and that my problem should stop when it got to the growing point and it did.

So RR just look for the closest leaf node at the top of the cutting, and everything above that that does not have a node will decay and fall off.

Hope I haven't confused anyone with this. I've been trying to cut all of the cuttings i've sent out recently just above a node. Maybe 1/4 inch or so. Hope tht's not too short because that's the way i've done all of my personal cuttings also.

My cuttings looked great, David. Thanks again.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

If Rothkirch drives you crazy, then I better not ever get one, because I'm nearly there on my own. lol

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

You are so right Kell. I watch mine too much, to see if it's growing.......or might be dieing, sigh, it will probably never bloom for me.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

How big is yours now Hibiscus? I would think it should be doing something soon.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

YOu haven't gotten any flowers yet Gloria? Well it should be ready to go floriferous in the spring for you.

It was so funny, my plane was leaving at 9AM and at 8 I am in the yard pollinating my new white brugling (Kyles) and Stubby( Susie's) with RK pollen. Late last night I was cleaning pollen off 6 blooms and it was so sticky I had tons on my little brush. I refused to just waste it so out I went this AM! Then I get to the airport late, rush in and they tell me I have a pocket knife in my carry on. I say NO WAY......... and they find one! Gosh......... I was waiting for the handcuffs.

My brother on my last trip East had tossed my Dad's into my bag for my kid. I had forgotten it. So I had to run out of secure area to mail it to myself. Rushed back in and this time I set off alarms as I walked thru! LOL. Search time! I was the last to board but I made it!

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

At least they caught the knife. I saw a news report where some guy traveled all over the world with a knife in his bag and it was never detected.

You must be in NJ now?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Ah but they did not catch last trip on the way home with it! LOL.

Yes, I am here and things are sad. I do not want to get to be so old and so alone.

There is something to be said for heart attacks. Eat a steak today!
