When should Brugmansia seeds be planted? Any special
tips? Thanks for any and all input!
I received some Brug seeds in a goody box and have
sent a few to a friend at the coast. She wanted to
start them as soon as possible. They were from last
years crop.

Brugmansia Seeds
Gee Lilypon, I think she can start them anytime if she has room and light to grow them in the winter. What zone is she in?
Last year February seemed to be a good month if she is planning to set them outside as soon as possible.
Here is a link that will give you an idea on the how tos.

However, Susie had us all doing experiments last winter and by far the most successful method for all of us was to peel the cork off and lay the inner seeds on a damp paper tower after soaking the seeds in a 10% bleach solution for 1 minute I think it was. Then we put them on wet papertowels, in closed baggies and somewhere warm. I hung mine off my computer lol. I am online so much it is nice and warm. Check them every few days. MAKE SURE YOUR HANDS ARE VERY CLEAN EACH TIME YOU TOUCH THE PAPERTOWELS.
When they germinate, transplant them to a light dirt mixture. I used clear cups that had tops (the Mcdonalds Salad cups they used to use) so I made a greenhouse effect and up they all came. It was so exciting!
I will say this year I am going to start all mine in February so I have a better chance to get them to flower in 1 summer. I also am going to rush them into the dirt in the garden so they can really take off. Last year I was lazy and put it off too long and now mine are slow to bloom.
I will say it is so exciting waiting and watching your first buds grow on your babies.
I sure hope you 2 have great success and grow very special ones! Good Luck!
Maybe Susie will come by and adding her wisdom and correct me if I need it. LOL.
Thank you very, very much Kell! LOL I had to chuckle
over your germination method...our computers do seem to
stay rather warm. ;)
Well, I guess since I am the one being talked about here, I thought I would say hi!!! Hi LIlypon!
Kell, I live on Vancouver Island, so freezing doesn't seem to be a BIG problem here. I started a brug from seed in the spring, and it is about 3 feet high now, but I don't think it will bloom this season.
My other two are doing great. Because we have ahd quite a bit of rain the last two weeks, yesterday we moved the brugs under a large eave where they will still get sun but not the rain.
Lilypon, thanks for the seeds. I will probably try and start some after Christmas.
Kell, I use the top of the computer monitor for planting.(Hubby is a programmer and has two monitors, so at least one of them gets used for my purposes!!!!) I have a banana seed up there right now. That reminds me, I'd better check and see if it needs water.
Later.
Glenda
