Hi everyone.
I bought this house last year and have watched the garden
surprises come up all year. Some bulbs did not do
well because they had been planted next to bushes
that have grown much larger. So as they came up I
marked them with popsicle sticks (my love was so kind
to eat the popsicles for me) so I could find them this
fall to move.
This fall is here and the popsickle stick are gone?!
So except for memory - How do I find the bulbs now they
are not visible? Anyone have a alternative to finding
them except digging up the entire garden?
Stupid ideas that I had
unless there grape muscari and their little heads are probably up already to show you were they are, i would wait until next spring or start digging.
To start digging would mean damaging plants.
Wait for another year and make a plan of your garden either on paper or on your computer. Label your bulbs as they flower with 8 inch black labels pushed 7 inches into the ground and with a number on the remaining inch. Animals wont see them.
I read something about planting bulbs that have already started to sprout(think it was aimed at southern gardeners).
If this is possible, maybe you could wait til spring when the shoots start to poke up out of the ground. If you took a good sized shovel of dirt out, it maybe wouldn't disturb the bulb's roots, and you could transplant the thing dirt and all to another spot. (And then fill in the holes you made with fresh dirt, lol). Water the hole you dig for them first(wet it down good), then plant the dirtball with the bulb, firm down well and soak it with water when you're done.
Thanks - I just still wonder - what stole all those popsicle sticks. There are only a few choices here as I live in town
Cats, sqirrels or moles
hmmmmm - will I find a pile somewhere sometime?
My guess is squirrels. My Mom had one as a pet when she was a kid, so I know they do like sweets. If those sticks still smelled like popcycle, then they probably dragged them off someplace. They are crazy little critters!
What about little people? LOL
well there is always THEM - maybe they liked the smell too
My bet's on the little people.......
"eyes"
Which group are we gonna pin the rap on, leprechauns or garden gnomes? Fairies, brownies, pixies are other probable suspects...Hmm, let's round 'em all up and bring them in for questioning!
I bet they wanted to see if popsicles were on the other end!LOL
RTOF Oh, Badseed, that is priceless!
My neighbors 3 year old gandson followed us about their garden as we picked tomatoes and pulled up onions, garlic and carrots. When we got back to the house he handed us a pocket full of popsicle markers. His Grandpa asked him why he pulled them all out. With his little hands on his hips he said "I didn' eat em, they forgot to grow"
"eyes" take note! one confirmed incident of "little people" being behind the mysterious disappearances. Thanks, Zanymuse! This "on-going investigation". is really starting to take shape. Roxroe can rest assured that her Dave's Garden pals are on the case, (and having lots of fun!)
well there are lots of other clues. No gold was found
so it probably wasn't leleprechauns but garden gnomes are
a definate possiblity. What does Gnome scat look like?
Leaves are falling so tracks will be hard to see.
Do Brownies leave brownies? Gotta find one.
When my daughter was little, she was a Brownie, but she never left a Brownie behind! Perhaps you should look for Girl Scout Cookies!
