WOW Kell
a lace leaved brug!

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Kell, basing from personal observation on some brugs growing in my yard, those damaged are done by katydid [sp?]. cat's damaged are smaller. katydids can devour leaves like ur photo overnight. cat's damaged takes longer time and smaller lacey effect, not bigger nibbles of the leaves. jmho.

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

groan - silly me, I'm thinking cats, like feline. Time for a cup of coffee.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

sorry sbarr, since everyone address cats for caterpillar. i thought to go along with the flow. i should have been more clearer.

Coal Center, PA(Zone 6a)

Very pretty plant!
Very nice photo (o:

Besides cats, I caught 2 grasshoppers in the glasshouse yesterday )o:

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

grin - I was just having a pre-coffee blonde moment. It's quite obvious about the catepillars. I do have to admit, I was looking for a picture of a cat. *embarrassed look*

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

almost too pretty to be real - that's the charm of these brugs, they ARE real.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Ada, they are lovely. You have done such a great job on your brugs.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Very pretty!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Thanks all. With the weird year we had this year, nothing grew good until the last month and now it's time to take them in.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Sbarr, I remember a thread a long time ago and Brugie was going on about Cats. I too thought she was talking about felines. I finally asked her for the thread was making less and less sense. It was a duh moment for sure!

I am downright jealous of that Maya, Ada. What a sight. Mine is huge for a pot, but it hardly bloomed at all, all summer! If it looked like yours I would have been thrilled!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Kell, with all the beautiful Brugs you have, I'm the envious one.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

This time next year you will be tossing brugs out. Believe me they seem to multiply like rabbits! My DH can't wait till I move on to my next obsession. He is hoping for a small plant like African Violets! LOL No more trees!

Brundidge, AL(Zone 8b)

You know I am still learning every day what abbreviations mean, atleast you didn't go months not knowing what LOL meant I really felt dumb, Mavie thanks for that imput i thought cats where damaging my plants but now that you mentioned that I have seen several katydids on my brugs but I didn't know they were harmful what do I need to spray on them to kill them? seven or something else ?

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Well, I've been having problems with cats & cats! Caterpillars are munching away, & I'm squishing every one that I find, & my four kittens are getting into EVERYTHING!

The kittens have been staying in the front yard since I've had them (middle of August), & I tell them over & over (...& over & over...) to stay out of the pots. They've knocked off a lot of leaves & broken a few small branches in front, but the brugs are all in the back.

This week they discovered the backyard. They spent one whole day climbing trees & playing in the yard. I was gone all day yesterday, when I went out this morning, Isabella was knocked over, a bunch of leaves & flowers were on the ground around other plants, & at least one seedpod was knocked off.

I know that they knocked Isabella down, it fell over in the wind a couple of weeks ago, & fell in the opposite direction. This time, it fell in the direction it would have if a cat jumped out of the tree & landed on it! The seedpod was barely started, but it was on Ecuador Pink, & it just finished blooming, so I won't have a chance to repeat the cross :(

Brundidge, AL(Zone 8b)

Oh bad kittys bad kittys !! sounds like you have some mischevious little kittys, sorry about your seed pod sounds like a problem my mother has been having with her dogs. Her best friend sold her house and ask my mother to dog sit two grown dogs and a 5 week old puppy Boston terriers,so you know how hyper they are any way, well they came home and the dogs had been playing a little game of chew up uncle michael's pony tail palms, oh my brother was so upset there wasn't even a root left

COLUMBUS, OH(Zone 6a)

I cut part of my brug back a few weeks ago because of the frost but put a garbage bag over the rest of it and here it is trying to bloom after the bag came off.Is this Frosty pink?

I didn't know what LOL meant either and now I use it after every sentence. I laugh so easily!

DH was another. Then I thought it meant dumb husband. I must have been mad at my DH at the time. I think dear Brugie educated me on most of them.

One of my cats uses my brug trees to sharpen her claws. There are claw marks up their trunks. I see her do it. Here I am so careful not to cross contaminate between brugs and the cats and cucumber beetles happily go from brug sharing all their germs!

Brundidge, AL(Zone 8b)

kell I still don't know what DH means i thought it meant dumb husband too then i figured dear husband, but I still am not sure it could mean dead husband ( I really hope this isn't the real case I'll be embarrassed for sure) LOL!!

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Kell, changing to African Violets won't help you, if you are a collecting junkie like I am. I used to grow African Violets until I had over 200 of them. That drove my DH crazy too. Hope that doesn't mean derelict husband. lol It is darling husband, right?

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

My DH keeps telling me to grow hardy stuff... that I don't need to bring inside. He really threw a fit this year when I started moving stuff in. Guess I threw a fit right back at him ... and won. He started to help me lug them in after that.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

H is definitely husband, D can be any of the above depending on what he's been doing (if it's Dead - HE'S REALLY in trouble!).

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Springsong i did not know katydids were around until recently, since the nights are getting colder. i see the katydids on the ground dead. the katydids were laying dead where they took big nibbles off the leaves off the brug they damaged. a brug leaf almost 12" long, almost the whole leaves were nibbled away. only the leaf ribs were left off.

on the other hand, cats damaged are smaller holes on the leaves. almost like a lacey effect.

maybe if u try flying insects spray, would work. i do not know i have not killed one katydid yet. like i said, i never seen them alive anywhere. grasshoppers yes, but not katydids.

on the grasshoppers, i use flying insect spray. just aim and spray away till u do not see them moving anymore.
