Garden Glove Question

Beverly Hills, CA(Zone 10a)

I didn't know where to post this question... I wanted to get some garden gloves to put in a gift bag for my garden pals. What are you favorite gloves? Thanks.

For me, there is no question it's leather with a velcro wrist piece to help keep things out. It just feels so good to put them on and know I get to dig in and garden.

I use the mud gloves, cotton with texture rubber on the fingers and palms; also use a lot of cheap surgical gloves ( not as pretty or as re-usable) but I can really do the fine motor work. The mud gloves come in different colors.

My favorite gloves right now are the water proof rubber gloves and they have the knit wrist band. I can't remember the name of them now. I buy them at one of my favorite nurseries down here. Every time I buy the cloth ones, they get so muddy and my finger nails go right through them within a month.

My favorite is also leather, very snug fitting. I get them in the childrens department. They're hard to get on but it's like I'm not wearing gloves once they are on and they form to the shape of my hands.

My hands usually look like gloves from all the dry skin, ground-in dirt and calluses!

When I wear gloves it's usually for nasty pruning things that have stickers, so I wear goatskin gloves that I got at Sam's. They are hard to find for small hands but are very pliable and snug to my hands. I had a designer pair once (white and rather thin) and they didn't hold up.

Definitely, The Mud Gloves, for gardening. I LOVE these things.
Heavier leather for rocks & wood lifting.

Good thread.

I like the mud gloves too.

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

I like the mud gloves in cooler weather but not when it is hot. Then I like fabric gloves that have reinforced fingertips but they are hard to find. If I can't find them I stock up on cheap cloth gloves and throw them out when the fingers rip.

I like leather for pruning things like roses.

A lot of the time I like bare hands - especially when I am planting seedlings. And I just like to be able to feel the soil - it 'tells' me a lot.

I just got a pair of the mud gloves on clearance at WalMart

I LOVE THEM!

Mudgloves for me too! I had been paying around $9 for them mailorder, but I just found some at a local farm store for $3ish! They have nylon stretchy stuff around the back of the hand and the cuff. My hands don't get as sweaty in them as they do in the more expensive ones and they hold up just as well.

I also got a pair of soft leather ones at the same store. But they feel so good and look so nice I don't know if I'll be able to bring myself to garden with them!

Roshana, last winter I found some dusty pink suede gloves and I haven't used them yet 'cause I don't want them to get dirty. Maybe I will use them to rake fall leaves. It's nice to know I am not the only one. LOL

You know, My Mom found a couple dozen ladies evening gloves at a garage sale one year. It was a riot putting on the fashion to dig in the garden, but they were great for digging around & held up, too.
