I have a passion flower from east Tex. I am in zone 8 in Ok. I need to know how best to prepare my flower for winter. This is my first and I don't have it's name.
I use some old toilets for pots with the tank still on them and fill the tanks with petunias. I do know my plant does give fruit. I would appreciate any recommendations.
thanks, PRCastle

prcastle - hoping for blooms - if it is here in Texas it should still be blooming, lol....FYI - we have the common maypop (P. incarta) here in Texas which is extremely hardy (in the ground) and comes back every year without any winter prep...it produces fruit and the flower is quite pretty...

bopjg - Willow's plant does not have any seeds....forgot what WillowWasp told as to why (she knows). We did cuttings and I stuck mine in willow water and none survived, she put her cuttings in a soil mixture but not sure of her success/loss. Hopefully she will see this thread and respond....if not I will get in touch with her.

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi all.....well my computer is barley responding this morning but I will try and get some of these post answered.....
The Lady Laverdar has to be crossed polinated with another varity to produce seeds.......

I have several others but none are blooming right now.....
Since I don't know how long our weather will hold or how well they will do in the Greenhouse don't know when I will have blooms to do any cross pollinating......This is what the blooms looked like on Lady Lavendar about 8am this morning......I will try and get photos of them when they are open a little later
This one has about 60 blooms on this morning and goes all the way to the top of a tree its planted next to......about 20-25 feet.

Edit for spelling and to clarify......

I have 2 passion vines on my fence, 1 purple, 1 red. Never had any fruit on either, but the purple blossomed all summer, with a short rest and now again in fall. The reds just started blooming in late summer. Both vines are 2 yrs old -. Here's a poc of the red. I'll send the purple in a moment.

Here's the purple. I don't know the specific names for either one of these. 2 Weeks ago I went up to Butterfly World. They have numerous passaflora, but none looked quite like mine.

John, I think your is Passiflora coccinea http://plantsdatabase.com/go/1558/

Covington, LA(Zone 8b)

Molly, your purple flower is belotti, aka alato-caerulea. It is a very nice, old hybrid sometimes called the Orchid Passionflower. There are a few others similar to this one but they seem to be uncommon here in the US.
Last year mine was a non stop bloomer. This year not so good at all. I wonder if it was because it stayed in the ground for winter.

**Did y'all know that Ransom Gardens is having a 50% off sale on passies?

Attached is Lavender Lady BEFORE the fritillary cats ate it to a skeleton.

I think this is the final passiflora bloom for me this season as it is starting to get colder here in Central Florida. I have many Passiflora incarnata seeds to trade out so give me a yell if you need any!

Molly, your red one is a vitafolia. The coccinea leaf is a single leaf, whereas the vitafolia is tri-lobed. If you go to a nursery, many places sell the vitafolia mislabeled as coccinea. I believe that the vitafolia is actually more desirable, since it is hardier and can withstand colder temp. I have several vitafolias. They do well, and bloom until it gets too hot. Then they bloom again once weather cools a bit.

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

This is still blooming today and has tons of buds on it. We have had several lite frost and it is simi protected. The runners in the trees are not protected at all and are still in bud and have good leaves on them.

I have take many cuttings from this plant and have yet to have a single one take. I am going to try something else tomorrow.....I will keep yall posted on how it does and if I have any success in rooting it...
I have looked at the links from other post and will try some of there suggestions...

The reds are back blooming like crazy again. and the purples, slowed down only for a short time. They are both blooming like nuts now. The fence looks great with all that color. Even tho we have had about 5 nights down in the 40 range, it's 73 now and it's probably going to be a mild winter. I hope so.

Botanyguy are you giving any seeds for postage & sase? I would love to have some, have never seen one in person.
