Hedychium

Does anyone grow Hedychium Forrestii and Hedychium coccineum? Do they have the same needs as the rest of the hedychiums?

Hi Liz, most hedys grow in med to full sun, depending on the species. The H.coccineum grows best in med. sun. I would think that most have the same needs.

Thanks Lisa. I have had gardnerianum and coronarium in the ground for the last few years and they come through our winter rains OK. If those two are hardy here do you think the rest of the hedychiums would be?

Liz, yes, I would think so, most of the Hedys are the hardiest of all gingers. My book also says zone 8 and some even zone 7.

Finally I have fallen head over heels for a plant I can leave outside. :~))))
