curcuma amada

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

I just bought this one, curcuma amada, this weekend. Can anyone tell me about it? Supposedly it goes dormant in the fall?

Liz, it should be starting to look a little shabby in a few weeks...are any leaves starting to turn yellow yet? If so, don't worry. I leave mine in the ground along with all my other gingers. I have not had any problems and all of them return for me.

The rizomes of C.amada is smells like mangos and is often referred to as the Mango Ginger. It will grow to 3 feet in sun. It is also used as a food source in India.

Not yellow yet. I have to do a bit of research to find out if I can leave them outside this winter. Thanks Lisa

What book are you using Lisa?

Liz, I love Tim Chapman's book : Ornamental Gingers "A guide to selection & cultivation" He is the "whos who" of the ginger world. Very interesting person. He can be found at: http://www.gingerwoodnursery.com/ I sure wish he would join DG.

Thanks Lisa, I'm off to check it out.
