So..... Is the the first bulb of the 2004 season or the last bulb of 2003. Everything is confused here.
First bulb or Last?
Very confused bulb. Better send it to school to learn when it is supposed to come up!
You can always send it to John "Pardancanda" to be whipped into shaping up! LOL ;~D

Be nice to my poor bulbs. I happen to like my Thanksgiving daffies and tulips! Freesias bloom for Chriistmas for everyone don't they?
at this stage but depending on the bulb I would say this is the first for the 2004 season.
That Mark...always looking forward!

Must be first - Today I found some Japanese iris that are about 9" tall. Early winter?
In So Cal, it's the first. It looks like a Narcissus. Mine are already 10 inches tall. The freesias I planted 2 weeks ago are starting to come up. I have ipheon all over the place (future bulb trades...) If you grow South African bulbs, start watering them. My Gladiolus tristis are 2-3 ft high. Babiana is up. I think I saw me Ferraria crispa was up too. I even have Dutch Irises coming up.
All this this and I still have 50 bulbs to plant! The tulips are in the fridge, ready for Christmas planting. My wife has a bunch of hyacinth and paper whites to force. Ay yii yii!
I thought, emphasis on the thought, I had taken out all of the bulbs to be moved to other places. This poor thing has been dug up, tossed around and buried who knows what side up.
My two cents, If I had any. For a lot of bulbs it does not matter which way is up. They will decide for them self which way to grow the stem. Pretty smart, that Mother Nature.
On closer inspection this AM, i discovered many bulbs that I thought I had removed were 6" high and laughing at me. Ah well. They're green in an otherwise stripped down garden. Poppies and larkspur are making an appearance too.
