What is a confederate rose? Is it in the hibiscus family or what? Sure is pretty, but I've never had one and inquiring minds want to know.

Shirley it is in the hibiscus family and i'd be glad to send you many cuttings. They root very easily in water or you can just stick them into a pot of soil.
It is perennial and the bush gets quite large. Even larger than the one in my pic.
Just let me know about the cuttings and i'll send you some or if you'd rather I root them and send them in the spring.
I plan on rooting lots of them anyway instead of letting the frost kill it this winter.
Some of the blooms will be the size of a coffee saucer almost.

Is it perennial to zone 5? I've never heard of anyone having one here. I sure can't keep a huge bush in the basement over the winter. Guess I better do a search.

I just love this!! I looked at it and thought hibiscus also! I have never seen it before. Does it bloom all summer?

Kell,
The confederate rose usually doesn't start blooming in S.C. until right about now (October). But for some reason mine had buds on it in July of this year. Sadly I didn't get to see them come into bloom because the cats ate all of them. I really didn't think I would get to see it bloom at all this year because of that, but it surprised me with a new set of buds and as you can see has started to bloom.

Shirley maybe this will help.
