I have no explanation except it was probably insanity on their part and they told me to keep them or give them away.

I made (aware of the cautions and risks) an order from Bre ck's - but, I had a coupon. I ordered 24 colossal daffodils and received 375+. Yes, that's right, 350 more than I ordered. 15 TIMES what I ordered! I ended up getting 7 boxes of bulbs.

I was concerned about the missing part of my order - some Madonna Lilies and a lavender mountain lily. When I mentioned that I received extras, she said keep them or give them away, that it wasn't worth it to ship them back. Sooooooooooo, friends, want any?

http://www.brecks.com/item_disp.asp?pn=65045

If there is anyone nearby who wants some, please send me a note. I'd be more than happy to share if you'll pay postage (they're in packages of 24 - retail for them was 25.99). I honestly do not have space for 400+ colossal daffodils (not even counting the tulips and jonquils that I didn't order that were also sent to me). Note, probably not reasonable to ship very far west, my zip is 12203 - I suspect a box will be 4+ pounds given the immense size of these bulbs.

I have * 0 -- after butterfly's name * bags to give away after already sharing a bunch with friends and co-workers. I might have one more package if someone wants to be a backup.

Did they charge you postage to send all that to you? Just curious. I do not want any, just asking about postage.

Grady, AL(Zone 8a)

I will take some if you have any left :)

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

Windy - no, it was same postage. I think when my order was for 24 bulbs, they sent me 24 packages. I've lost count with digging all weekend and giving them away. I think the total charge for postage on my credit card was like $8.00 for a 70 dollar order, not too bad (plus I had a coupon). But, the rep said keep them, so I am sharing as many as I have left - I just can't dig anymore, I have almost a couple hundred other bulbs to get planted on top of these and I just sent in an order for notmartha's co-op. My yard will be a cross between Martha Stewart and Little Shop of Horrors.

butterflygal - they're yours. Please email me your home address. I will send you a note with shipping costs after I send them.

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

kokopelli, you're next in line - send me an email. This is amazing - they sent me ANOTHER box of bulbs (I had called about my order in September, two were backordered but arrived a day later. Even though I called to let them know I received the bulbs, they charged me again (I called tonight and they reversed the charges and said to keep the bulbs). You can have the following:

Daffodils:

http://www.brecks.com/item_disp.asp?pn=58081

Lavender Mountain Lilies

http://www.brecks.com/item_disp.asp?pn=62661

Pretty good deal - at their current prices, about $45 worth of bulbs. All you pay is postage.

Folks, I'll post again if I get another box. I'm tired of planting daffodils and Lavender Mountain Lilies.

Hi Cathy - yes, replied to your email this morning. I posted this note before I sent you a personal email for address, just in case you didn't read this thread. All set - I'll try and drop off at the UPS office tonight on my way to the gym.

Princeton, IL(Zone 5a)

Sandra--All I thought that was in the box was the daffs, went to throw out the box and there was something in the bottom. LOL, Something more to plant! Thanks for the Lavender Mountain Lilies!

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Im in love with the Mountain Lillies toooooooooooo they look great!!!!!!!!!!!!

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

Annabelle - I liked them too, just not 20 packages worth. If they do well, hopefully I'll have some to trade next year. Brecks finally stopped sending me boxes, which is a relief and I finally sent out the last of my bulbs!!

Darius - yours is on the way. Koko - keep an eye out for yours towards the end of the week. Alyssum - you should have the last of the mountain lilies today. I sent everything on Saturday.

Fremont, CA(Zone 9a)

No way, George - are you serious????? You mean I'm gonna miss these if I move - and I planted a couple hundred or more....how big are they? How big are the flowers?

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Do you have a firm answer yet about moving to Ireland?

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

Yes, we settled on the increased vacation yesterday (he wants to keep it "under the table" so it's not an entitlement when I move back to the states). That's fine with me, as long as they understand - I work my a** off, but I also take every minute of vacation and now I won't be able to take long weekends to visit my family.

I start April 1. No idea how the work visa, etc. are all going to get handled within the next month, but that is their problem. All I need to do is my list of a hundred or more items, including a trip to New Mexico over the next 28 or 29 days. Good thing (in this respect) that Doug is staying here so I don't have to sell the house.

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

who's Doug?

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

Doug's my better-natured half who doesn't like to travel - he's the homebody, I'm the gypsy.

Fremont, CA(Zone 9a)

I guess Breck's didn't lie. They are about 5" across. Don't fret if you end up in Ireland this fall, I would be glad to send you some this fall.
Maybe you can visit my monument in Ireland http://down.goireland.com/scripts/low/xq/asp/areaid.176/areatype.C/cat.9/SubjectID.22/PremisesID.14101/qx/premises.htm
or visit my ghost town in N.M. http://htg-is.vianet.net/~artpike/crozie1b.htm
Someday I shall go to all the place names and monuments to what may be my ancestors, but to whom I have no trace.
I even your courage to go that far and leave so much behind. I am sure you will develop some truly wonderful memories.

George - I know. This whole move seems unreal - it will seen VERY real in about four weeks. I'll have to check out the site in Down and let you know when I get there. That's a county I've never visited, even though I have traveled to Ireland six times. But, I know I'll get there.

I grew up in New Mexico - but have never been to Crozier - that I highly doubt I'll visit. But, if I do - I'll let you know :)

Fortunately, all I'm leaving behind are my house, my personal relationship, my family in NM, my garden, my dogs and a very rewarding and successful job. OMG - did I say that...It's a huge transition, but it feels like the right things for me to do. But, what I get out of this - a significant promotion, the opportunity to work on some exciting projects, traveling to upwards of 20 countries in Europe over the next few years.

On the bright side - *my* Doug and I will be traveling back and forth; he may move over in September; my family is looking forward to visiting me in Ireland; I'll probably ship one dog over through London and bring over on the ferry; houses can be sold and bought - but, I'll never get any younger, so this is the time to do these adventures that I'll remember for the rest of my life.
