I didn't list all the names, but I don't have names for all. LOL Here is what I have.
Sun Coleus for a friend :)
Badseed:
They are all very beautiful. I saw some coleus at The Home Depot today and I decided that I need to have some in my garden. However, the ones I saw today look like chopped liver when compared to yours. :-)
Might you want some cuttings? They won't live here and I'll have to cut them way back to bring them in.
I would love some cuttings! Thank-you very much. I will e-mail you.
Badseed, How beautiful. And what a great selection you have. I have been taking some cuttings of mine. It always inspires me to see what someone else has. Think I'll go pot up some of the cuttings. It will be cold here soon, so grabbing few warm days of sun that are left. Sometimes on unusually warm days I set them back outside. I struggle to keep them over the winter. But have been successful a few times.
I have a burgandy duck foot (I think is the term - sorta like the one you have pictures). Love putting the different leaf textures and colors next to each other.
Thank you much Kathy. I got them from my dearest and longest standing DG friend. I won't name names though. LOL I really enjoy them. Last year was my first year with them, when I brought some home from the KY RU. I got those from Cala. These probably came from her too. LOL
seems like i seen a ton of these in my area this year...they are getting very popular... will have to add some next year. The colors really liven up a garden
Beautiful pictures.
How do you winter them over successfully? I have lots of them this year and would love to keep them. Last year I kept them, for a few months but then they all rooted. It was a slow and painful death to watch!
Kell, I root a coleus and after it is big enough to take a cutting, I throw the roots away and root the new piece. I do this until about March and then let the rooted one grow and take a bunch of cuttings. Never had any trouble doing it that way, but I do this in the house and not in a hoop house. Might be too moist in the hoop house for them. They like to be warm too.
Michele, they are all incredible!!!! I love every single one. Did I tell you that I'm going to my first RU on the 18th! I am so excited.
Bambi
I am glad you are going Bambi! You will have a great time! Your box left here today. I'll E you about the postage in a bit.
Delecie, I don't seem to have an addy for you. If you can get it to me soon, I can mail yours on Monday am.
Do you root them in water , soil, vermiculite or what? I have some called stained glass that I would love to keep for next year. Thanks Lou
I have never seen stained glass, I bet it is colorful. I root mine in dirt, but lots of dgers root theirs in water. Brugie, do you have any problems with white flies on them inside? I cannot keep white flies off them in the greenhouse. I am thinking about potting some up in a big pot and just take them in and out all during the year. We only have about two weeks of cold weather, but maybe a month in the fifties.
Whoops! Sorry. I lost this post. I prefer to root them in seed mix. They root just fine in water, but I find it harder to get them used to dirt after water, so I just do them in the dirt to start with. Many do theirs in water and it does work just fine, just not my preference. :)
Michele, yours look very happy rooting in water! yOU FOUND ME A PLANT that I can actually not kill!! Roots, roots, roots.....
Bambi
LOL I'll have to send you all my plants! Never seen someone so happy. ;)
Beautiful! My mom had one in front porch. I told her to pinch to remove the flowers top. She said No, leave it alone. Its pretty! LOL.. I told her, it will grow into bib bush if she pinch top off. I am going to get me several colorful next spring!!!! I just love them!
Michele:
The cuttings arrived safely today. Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you! I appreciate your generosity and I'm especially excited about the rooted GQ cutting.
The coleus cuttings have been dipped in rooting hormone and potted. The GQ has also been potted. Now, the praying begins. :-)
You are very welcome. I hope you will enjoy them. My GQ is blooming very well in the kitchen and smells wonderful! I forgot to let you know I got the paypal. Thanks!

Here's a picture of my only sun coleus, 'Shocking Pink'. Not 100% sure of the name but that's what it looked like when I went to www.coleusfinder.org. I've been very impressed by them, mine is in a full sun south facing bed and came through our CA summer in great shape. Eight months old and hasn't gone to flower yet, a real buy from HDepot, definitely worth the few dollars it cost!
Jkom51, did you lose it in the freeze last week? Which HD had this one? I had 2 beds of coleus this year. I have too much trouble wintering them over though. They usually end up rotting. Do you keep them outside all winter?
thanks
