Is Microcycas the tallest one, or the short one in the front? (or are they the same plant?)

Keizer, OR(Zone 8b)

Interesting plant. Don't think I've ever seen one. Looks like it's even taller than a queen sago will get.

Both are the Microcycas in that photo. There are some cycads that will develop over 60' of trunk (eg. Lepidozamia hopei)... and, if given time, many cycads will develop 20+ feet of trunk. Some cycads may never have a natural point at which they die of old age... they may just keep on living and growing until some natural disaster ends their life, or they fall over and new plants form from the fallen caudex. Some cycads alive today could be several thousand years old.

Thatīs interesting. I always watch your pictures of Cycadaceae and Zamiaceae, because thatīs a group poorly represented here. We donīt have native plants from this family in Brazil, and the only cultivated species are Cycas circinalis, C. revoluta, and one or two Zamias. Any other cycads are new for me.

Where was that picture taken?

This is a shot of Montgomery Foundation plants in Miami Florida... it's a private research botanical reserve set aside mostly for the growth and study of palms and cycads... really great place... just about 1 mile from Fairchild Tropical Gardens.

You sure get around; I'm jealous.

Wow, a most impresive Cycad.
