Flowerbeds all weeded, now if I only had...

We had all our beds weeded today and they look so nice, but bare. Now if I just had about 20 brugs blooming in the back bed, I would be brug paradise. lol

I'm waiting for the frost to weed mine for me...

Frost already did mine, weeded out my brugs also!

We usually get our first frost around Thanksgiving, but I'm expecting one earlier this year. It has been such a crazy weather year and it seems that a lot of you have gotten freezes early this year. What I hate about our weather is that we usually just get a few freezing nights, but the damage is done with just one.

The only problem with having someone else do your weeding is that always seem to get a few of your plants as well. I went out and checked all the beds after they left and discovered that a really pretty new variety of pale blue verbena that I just planted a couple of months ago was gone, along with the weeds. Oh well, at least I don't have to do it now.

Have you tried Preen Sylvia? I swear by that stufff!! I used to spend a full day every week weeding. I would rotate around my yard. I was sure people walked by and tossed in dandelion and grass seeds. The best time to put it down is right after a weeding. I miss my volunteers but my back sure appreciates it!

kell, I use the preen too and love it, just don't put around things you want volunteers from.

I'll sure give it a try. We have one big bed in particular that so many different weeds and bermuda grass come up in. It is a raised bed that is about 8' x 104'. We had soil brought in that was supposed to be sterile with mulch, compost and fertilizer added. Ha, what a joke! We have had all kinds of flowers, as well as weeds and grass come up in it. We have even had a couple of trees come up in it, a red crepe myrtle and a hackberry. We gave the crepe myrtle away and dug up the hackberry and threw it away. The only reason that I've never used pre-emergence herbicide in there is because I have a lot of different larkspur that come up in the Spring that add a lot of pretty pastel colors for several weeks. I guess I'll have to sacrifice those though, because I'm getting too old to do all that weeding by myself. Hiring someone to do it gets expensive, when it has to be done every few weeks to stay on top of it. It's a waste to time to ask my DH to help, because he has always told me that, if I wanted flowerbeds, they were my job to take care of. He could care less if we had anything but grass and a few shrubs. Shrubs, how boring! Is Preen the one that you just shake on?
