Hello everyone,
I'm new to gardening, and to Dave's Garden, but the Rose forum has been helpful to me already. All the forums seem to be equally helpful from what I've read.
I especially enjoyed reading all the posts in the Greenhouse forum. It was great to find other people who felt the same way I feel, about how peaceful it is to just putter around in there.
I live in Massachusetts, and the greenhouse is unheated, but even in winter, it is warm enough from midmorning to early afternoon to spend time there.
I had my own flower shop at one time, and loved roses then, but now I want to try and grow them, not just arrange them! I have 4 bushes growing, and plan to add a lot more with the help of the rose forum. I also have 29 tomato plants in the ground, along with some heirloom beans. I am hoping they continue to grow, even though the temperatures here feel more like October than May!
I guess you can tell that I will be taking advantage of advice from everyone here, and how happy I am to have found Dave's Garden. :)
On to the Pond forum,
Dorothy

Welcome to DG Dorothy!

Welcome to DG, Rhapsody! Feel free to putter around as often/long as you like (somehow we all "fit" in this garden without bumping into one another, heehee!) Glad to have another gardener in our midst!
Welcome to DG Dorothy! Glad to have you aboard. (I loved the short time I spent exploring Maine.)

Hi Dorothy,
It's great to have you here...welcome :)
Trish
Thank you all so much for the welcome. Dave: I am so glad you became a gardener and started this group. Go_vols: What a great way you have of expressing your sentiments. Darius: I am glad you enjoyed Maine, I have been there briefly a few times, and wished I could have stayed longer too. I would love to visit some of our southern states like yours, they all look so beautiful on HGTV, but I have only been to Florida - MzMunchkin's state. And, since I took up gardening, I would have to agree with you MzMunchkin, you are very lucky! Florida and California are two great places to garden. My daughter-in-law sends me pictures of my grandchildren playing in the yard, and they are surrounded by such beautiful flowers, no matter what the season. Melody in KY: they are eating my heirloom beans and pumpkins, you will be hearing from me soon! :) I missed growing my heirloom tomatoes this year, I had quite a variety last year! Notmartha: I'm hope you gain some comfort from continuing your Mom's interest in gardening, and from the people here sharing it. I know I smile when I see the Kentucky Derby start, or even see the results from a local race track - it reminds me of my Dad! :) Dicentra: thank you for the warm welcome. One of my best friends came from your neck of the woods. Looking forward to sharing and maybe trading with you all.

We are happy to have you join us!

And a big HELLO From Northern California!
Trish: Thanks for the added welcome. I looked up the distance between here (Massachusetts) and the location for your Garden Party - really wanted to come - but, it was just too far for my 2 Poms to go! :) How wonderful of you and Dave to throw this shindig!
Zanymuse: Ah, Northern Cal (Antioch anyway) is where my son and daughter-in-law live. I 'm sure your garden is glorious! They keep telling me how happy I would be out there, but so-far I am still a New Englander. Thanks for the big HELLO.
Dorothy
Hi Jewel,
You are farther away than I am! I am looking forward to hearing about it too, and would actually go, except for my dogs. I have 2 poms, a black and a cocoa colored one. Both are larger than average poms - one I rescued :) from a pet store, and the other one was being given away :( in the newspaper. I just love them both, and they are really good about sitting outside while I garden.
I am interested in what you are growing. I know our climates are certainly different, but it is fun learing about other places - the closest I've come to your area is Vancouver. Truely beautiful, especially the trip out to Victoria? Island. We had high tea in their large hotel.
I am very interested in houseplant propagation. Do you just stick the cutting in the same soil as the mother plant - this is an ivy of some kind, and a pothos - I wanted to try for it for a friend. Do you use rooting hormone?
What do you have in your containers? I only have geraniums, petunias, impatients, and alyssium. Planted more, but it hasn't grown yet.
Glad to meet you, Dorothy
Welcome Dorothy from beautiful Virginia :-)
