I agree. I feel like I could just reach out and touch the actual flower.

You're so close and the Gardenias have done so well this year, if you step outside right now I bet you can smell it.

These things are very fickle and last year they sulked and dropped yellow leaves the entire summer. I gave it a good talking to and threatened it with the big "C". Something like publish or perish, but in this case bloom or compost is your destiny.

I'm sure you've heard the whole thing about soil temp and Gardenias......I'm sure it was our HOT HOT summer that did the trick this year. This is the fourth flush of blooms and the three bushes are still loaded with buds. Gardenias for Christmas??

Happystance, i have one of these bushes i bought this past summer... mine looked like it had a struggle blooming and would get buds and the buds woul dthen turn brown... never blooming.. i did one of those PH soil test kits which said i has no acid.. i did put a little acid type food of some sort in the soil.. and still no blooms.. the plant gets sun most all the day with shade by like 3 in the summer...so what am i doing wrong or is it the PH??? any help would be appritiated.. thanx

Hi Chrissy -

These things are just plain finicky. They feed heavily and like warm soil. I think that's why mine finally began doing what they are supposed to this year.

It was consistantly HOT for weeks at a time and the soil temp got up there. They've been in for about 4 yrs and last year I threatened them with banishment to the compost heap if they didn't bloom bigtime this year.

They are still blooming now and I will have gardenias for Christmas!
