A Small Irish Garden

This site describes the 3 types of Clematis. Early flowering varieties, large flowering varieties, and late flowering varieties. A nice website! http://www.esatclear.ie/%7Eemal/clematis.html

Nice link, thanks for posting it!

Thanks golddog. Looks like I may have been doing a bit too much pruning that wasn't necessary at all.

Hi Brugie, I am going to adjust my treatment of Clematis also. Plus Ireland has a warmer climate than Pa. So a few things to think about. Nothing to think about when it comes to sweet autumn Clematis. Chop, chop, chop!

Right....my sweet autumn clematis goes down to the ground every fall and each year it gets huge. Right now it is in full bloom and it smells so good.

For the most part I would rather have one that needs wacking back often, than one that wants its hand held. Akebia quinata is like that. It is even coming in the front screened-in porch. That's what pruners are for.

Sounds like both of us are going to give the clippers a workout this year. :)
