Creamsickle is dropping her inner skirt in the garage. There are several of them in bloom and oh my gosh, it does smell good out there. I know, it doesn't look like much, but when you enlarge it, you can see so much more.
My garage garden's Creamsickle
I like it! Looks like you have some color and a nice size bloom.
Oh YES! How Gorgeous! Now I've Finally made up my mind;)
You have mail!
Shirley, she's beautiful, but she must be a little naughty if she's dropping her skirt in front of everybody in the garage. lol
This is the only one I am having problems with! I don't think I am going to bring it in, I think I will try with a fresh cutting, I think I will start with a new plant next year. I suspect it has become virused.
Tracey, mine didn't do anything until right now. It was one that I was going to ditch and do without, but now I'm thinking I better try one more summer. It did get quite large, just wouldn't put out good blooms. Do you need some cuttings?
Dropping her skirt? What does that mean?
That's a gorgeous bloom to me. I love them all. Is it a real fragrant one?
Joan, it smells great. The skirt that drops is the inner bloom. This one has two layers. She is a huge bloom and would probably do well in your cooler climate.
Oh, so "dropping her skirt" is a good thing? I've never heard that expression before.
Most of my brugs are all in the garage doing their best to resist my urge toward dormancy. Once it gets a bit cooler in the crawl space and they have shed most of their leaves I'll put them there. The leaf mess is easier to clean up in the garage. :)
I have some in the house too. Dr. Suess, the unknown that I grew from seeds Glory sent me, Equador Pink, and Double White Candida. They are all blooming now except the unknown one, and it has lots of buds.
I hate to see the season end, and I wish there was a way to get them to bloom earlier in the summer, rather than waiting until it's freeze time.

Joan, yep, dropping her skirt in this case, is good.
Have you had snow yet? I've heard that parts of Michigan have had some. I'm not ready for that yet.
I think we northern gardeners need working greenhouses for our brugs. Actually, I usually have two or three flushes of blooms. I don't know what happened this year because some are just getting ready to bloom their first flush in the garage.
Brugie, she sure is pretty and I bet your garage does smell good. I sure wish so many of your were not having such cold weather now.
Nope, no snow yet. At the football game the other night we seen a few flurries after it rained, but then it quit. Thank goodness! I've been reading about the upper part of Michigan getting snow, and it sounds like quite a bit of it for this time of year.
Yeah, working greenhouse...I have been begging for years, but now we have enough left over lumber to build the frame anyway. DH said maybe next summer. I'm keeping all my fingers and toes crossed. I've even been looking at all the auction sale bills in case one has a propane tank for sale. I'll need to heat it with propane I think. The electricity bill would force DH to make me not use it in the winter.
You might want to talk to Snowhermit about what it cost to heat hers last year. I could buy all the plants for the cost of the heat and have money left over.
Thanks, I'll do that. It would most likely cost more to heat it here. The wind we have wouldn't help things any either. Maybe I would have to let the brugs go dormant for a bit and only fire up the greenhouse late fall and early spring. Not quite what I have been wishing for though. LOL
at least you are getting some flowers in your garage! pull up a chair and sit a spell!
Joan, if you ever do put up a greenhouse, the bubble insulation that places like Charley's sell is a real heat saver. It cost me about a hundred $$ to insulate mine. Keep in mind that it is a small greenhouse 8x10, but I was able to move into it in February this year and with two electric heaters, it never got below 50 degrees. Our heat bill did crawl up about $30-50 but I couldn't even have heated it before the insulation. The temps got down to about 2 degrees outside. If I had a bigger greenhouse, it would definitely have to be heated with a furnace.
Thanks Brugie. I have the Charley's catalog and I was going to do some planning this winter to see how much money I had to save up this winter. I'll keep that in mind.
Shirley, only you could make plants look that nice in the garage! LOL You amaze me!
Michele, you aren't here in person to see them or you wouldn't say that. Thanks anyway. Seems to me that they are not putting on color like they should and maybe I need to drag them back outside. I'm just getting too tired to do that.
S.
I did go out and look at the frozen brugs in the garden and some of the buds look like they could still open. I'm crossing my fingers.
It would be great if you could still see them bloom! This year sure was bad. Well, it was great for the ears, bananas and cannas, but the brugs sure were not happy. I have buds on Gypsy Queen, Milk and Honey, 2 First Day, my giant white one, hmmm that may be all. So they are sitting in the house until I see them bloom. I still haven't dug up all my ears. Gee, how did I get into this mess? LOL
Lol Brugie! We did not get our frost. It was 38º when I got up this morning... and no frost. This afternoon I told DH.... we could lug the plants back out cuz the frost missed us. If looks could kill....
I don't think I can go through lugging those big pots one more time. I'm just going to enjoy the smell in the garage for a few days and make cuttings out of them later. Maybe next year we will all have a better year.
Fabulous Shirley. Glad you kept her.
Hey Sue, I think your DH is really mine! Oh if looks could kill i would be dead many times and so would my plants!
You have worked so hard Brugiee. I do not blame you for being done for this season!
