My brugs today...

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

They all look very similar to this one. Almost two weeks early for the freeze. I could have seen a great flush of blooms on everything had we stayed in the normal zone. I guess nothing has been normal this year.

Sorry Shirley,Hope you are able to save a few, this cold came too soon!

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

How sad. Poor little brug. Poor little Brugie.

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

I hate that for you! I will be chopping back this weekend, I have all my pots ready for vermiculite, like Susie showed me, and I am just going to start cutting, making sure I get a few of each, and take those to the greenhouse, so I can repay a big favor you did for me if you need it, in the spring!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Yes TLynn,I am planning the same type weekend here,it will be nice to be able to share, folks here where so kind to me,I just gotta pass it on!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I'm fine here. Have all my cuttings done and have sent out about 15-20 packages of cuttings as of tomorrow. I won't be able to send many more though. I would have had tons of cutting material. Tracy, I hope you don't get a freeze soon. It means it is time to work and clean things up and I still wanted to sit on the deck and enjoy it for a while. Oh well, I'm not stewing about it anymore.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Aw gee, Shirley! I just saw this, so sorry dear!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I'm over it now Vi. Nothing I could have done to change things. Heavy blankets might have saved the flowers, but the blanket would have done a lot of damage too. I'm just looking forward to next year now. Wondering what problems I'll come up against then. ;)

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Sad to see them go. Poor, poor brugs....... Looks like you'll have a show in the garage for a while.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

That is one sad plant. When you say your brugs were laden with blooms, you were not kidding! You have so many there. Which plant was that Brugie?

Dripping Springs, TX

What a bummer. I guess I had better get my hoophouse done this weekend. Shirley I'll save your hoyas until next spring. I hope that gives you something to look forward to.

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

desert_rose,
.....A dumb question here....what is a Hoophouse please?

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Shirley,so sorry to see that, but you got the good ones in so thats a good thing, its snowing a few miles north of here and my windsheild was covered in ice when I got out of work tonite so I think you sent that frost this way!

I'm glad you didn't give up on Creamsickle,Its still in my top 10 Favorites

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Oh that's so sad. I hate our weather. We get just enough cold snaps to mess everything up and then it warms back up.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Kell, that was a seedling this year. Almost all of my seedling had never bloomed and looked like this or at least fairly close to bloom. I only saw about 4 or 5 seedlings bloom this year. Had about 35-40 planted.

DR...thanks, but let me know what I owe you so I can send you a check.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Shirley, it is sad to see it all come to end. I am so glad that you started early and have as many as you do in your garage and got cuttings that you wanted. I know what you mean when you say you wanted to sit on your deck and still enjoy the beauty that surrounds it. It is such a wonderful place and I have such happy memories of it. If you ever need anything . . all you have to do is ask.

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

OOOOHhhhhhh.....I like that...Thanks Kell.

I get alot of high winds up on this hill but may try to figure out a sheltered area for one.I'll start small tho.
I thought of something like this in the past to cover with bird netting over my strawberry beds.
>^,,^< SB...........

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

That is so sad Shirley! It's so hard to believe that summer is over........ I'm glad you were able to bring some of them in the garage.

The frost snuck up on me last night! I've been SO busy the last week I didn't notice a frost warning until it was to late to do anything about it.

Rock Hill, SC(Zone 8a)

Brugie, after the frost did what it did to this plant, is it to late to cut the stalk up for cuttings? I'm still learning. George

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

George, I'm afraid I don't know the answer to your question. I know that the roots would still be okay, but as for cuttings, maybe someone else will know and tell us both.

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

Now you can rest!!

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

That's a sad sight. So many blooms too. I'm glad you got some of them in though, and I hope you can find a way to save the rest.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I don't even think about them being gone now. Will have help next weekend and we will get this yard ready for spring. It is kinda nice thinking that the cleanup will all be done (except leaves) in another few days.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

And no more watering Brugie!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Right....what are you doing up so early, or have you even been to bed? I've got to head to the next small town to mail a package in a few minutes. Our PO window isn't open on Saturdays.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

It all depends on if and how deep the outer cells are damaged. The damage should be seen within a few days after frost.
If the cold has not been to long and the old plant didnt quit growing, the cuttings should root.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thanks Monika. I went out this morning and scraped the outside of the stalks and they are hard and green. Will try some and see what happens. Just hate to have it all go to waste if it will grow.

Woodburn, OR(Zone 8a)

Brugie, I LOVE that pot, it's so pretty ! Mine are all in ugly black plastic pots, oh well!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Now, I'm really laughing. That gorgeous pot is the liner from an old automatic washer. I have 5 or six of them that my local Maytag man brought me. They sure don't blow over in the wind. However, they do require a lot of soil to fill.
