Caladium

Cortlandt Manor, NY(Zone 6a)

I live in zone 6 and need to winterize this, can I just pot it up and use it as a houseplant? Any suggestions?

I usually dig, dry and store caladium bulbs/corms/whatever they are called, but haven't had much success at keeping them more than about 3 years. They survive and grow the following year but seem to diminish in vigor.

Alyssum - I did pretty well last year with digging them up, putting them in woodchips in a huge zip lock bag that I would keep half open to moderate the humidity.

Darius - I'll have to watch them next year to see if they do start diminishing. These were salvage survivors from the city park last year.

sbarr... Sheepishly, I have to admit I didn't use any bulb food when replanting. Some blood meal or bone meal may have helped. I have a few I bought this year and may dig them and try again, hoping if I treat them better, I'll have better results. Learned that from doing gladiolus, LOL!

All of my glads are dug - hopefully they are dry enough to put in peat in the basement. We need to talk about next year - I got a couple of other people to lock us in for 500! :)

cool, Sandra. Can it wait until after the GA RU, which is 2 weeks away?

Sure - let's talk after that. If I recall, you didn't send in the order last year until Nov. I'll forward our up to date list Monday from work and you can think on it over the next few weeks.
