All I know is that this is a Curcuma ginger. The flower, though this picture doesn't show it, has just a touch of pink on the tips of the top petals. The leaves are variegated (just a thin edge of cream around the leaves). The plants are dormant from about November to May and grow to about 3-4 feet tall. Any idea which ginger this is? Here's the flower:
Ginger ID
Curcuma cordata??? http://www.gingersrus.com/DataSheet.php?PID=3241
I'd looked at that one and it's close but not quite it. The top has too much color to it. This bloom has just a very very faint touch of pink. Also the leaves on C. cordata don't have the cream edge that mine does.
if u surf the site of my hyperlink above, u will see that there are many varieties of C. cordata. different colors too. that site is my ginger bible :).
The leaves are like this C. petiolata 'Emperor', but the flower description isn't quite right on it (they describe burgundy touched tips and mine is the palest lavendar or pink):

Hi ButterflyGardener, I have that ginger, it is Emperior--or at least that is what the grower told me. The flower is the same as yours, white with pinkish tips. It just got finished blooming here.
I have a ginger plant that a friend brought me back from Hawaii. I have had it for about three years but it has never bloomed. I winter it inside and take it out in the summer. The plant itself looks fine but no blooms? What could I be doing wrong. No digital camera so no photos. It's in a terra cotta pot. Would that have anything to do with it?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
Jan
Too much sun?
No Smockette, It's in a shade partial sun area. When it's in the house it get indirect light. I would just once love to see it bloom.
Tombstonejan, if you can post a picture, we can at least figure out what family of gingers it is and then we could give you more specifics on what it needs to bloom. I think pretty much all gingers like consistently moist soils (not sopping wet all the time, but never completely dry) and from what little I know of them, they do like regular feedings. Maybe more water and more/some food would help. Also, I think some gingers bloom on old growth, so pruning could affect flowering.
