Since things have cooled off some and it's been overcast/rainy a lot lately, the b'flies seem to be doing more basking to warm up. I've gotten a few great shots. Here's one of the Gulf Fritillary (the wings are pressed together).

Nice pictures...love those spots on the under side...how unusual.
I love these butterflys. We had lots last year but not this. I wonder if the cold had anything to do with it. We're getting more and more lately so that's good.
I had lots of them early on this year and then hardly any at all this summer. Lots of zebra longwings around, though. My DH kept saying, I see a black b'fly out the window. TO which I would promptly ask, does it have thin/long wings with yellow stripes? We're still getting lots of them. I've had 3 at a time nectaring on my firebush (Hamelia patens). I have yet to get a good picture of one!
I have ZLWs roosting overnight in my backyard. They come in at dusk and settle on branch tips. I saw this at Arlene's up near Gainesville last year. It is so neat to watch them and so hard to get a picture under the trees at that time of evening
Stacey, that would be such a cool shot to get of all those Zebra's roosting...even to see it would be really neat!
