Passiflora incarnata

Orlando, FL(Zone 9b)

This is a plain old, normal, unhybridized passiflora. I just love the intricacy of the flowers on it. Supposedly the fruit is edible (you can get passion fruit juice from it). I have not tried this myself. My only complaint about this plant is that it will send up suckers all over the place. The carpenter bees/bumble bees absolutely LOVE to feed on this plant.

I think the incarnata is one of the prettiest :) I planted one up close to the house this year and I'm hoping it will winter over. I haven't had any luck anywhere else in the yard.

If you loose it and want some seeds to restart it, let me know. I've collected a few fruits so far and have a film cannister partly filled with the seeds.

This has been my most favorite vine this summer. It bloomed a lot, grew a lot, and no bugs attacked it.

It is certainly welcome to return next spring.

Will mulch it to protect it from the coming winter.

You guys must not have any Gulf Fritillary butterflies around. Their cats totally demolished the leaves on mine - left only the stems. But that is okay, too, I love the butterflies. Brenda

Do you have a picture of the Gulf Fritillary?

I would love some seeds or starts of this if anyone can spare them. I was supposed to get some this summer and it fell through. No big deal, but I would still like to grow it. :)

Plantnutz, I have LOTS of fritillaries and zebra longwing butterflies around, both of which have cats that feed on the passionvine. I think the problem is that there are lots of carpenter ants that nectar on the plant and eat the cats/eggs. I have watched them do this to my sulfur cats/eggs on the Cassia alata. I'm going to have to figure out a way to keep the ants off the plants--at least some of them...

Thanks for the pictures; very pretty!
