Hello Everyone!
I've been lurking about for awhile now, and it's nice to see everyone here has a healthy respect for one another, and the 'house rules' don't change day by day.....
To get to the point, I would like to do a trade for passion flower vine cuttings...or even a small plant. My mother's plant croaked before I had a chance to take cuttings (or the whole dang plant, heh heh heh) I can offer small starter (4" pot)plants or postage in return. If you're looking for something alittle out of the ordinary, let me know, I can generally track one down in a week or so. Hoping to hear from someone, anyone! soon.....

I'm interested in P. alata 'Ruby Glow'
kht & mm
I have 3 rooted cuttings of one I haven't ID yet. The only fruit (from cross pollenating with P. incarnata) is about 2.5 wks old and about the size of a baseball, and getting bigger. Glossy dark green skin with white dots all over, no pattern. Tri-lobed dark leaves, but some are missing one lobe, somewhat serrated, thick, not hairy. WHite fillements with solid dark purple/violet center.
Oh drat....Tim figured me out...sigh : )

I searched Vanderplank's book, the leaves indicated it might be a P. edulis, but the problem is it isn't self fertile. Whatever it is, it sure rooted fast, took only about 3-4 wks with 100% success.
*Now* I *know* who Bucky is....you sly li'l devil(ette) you!! Hey guys...Bucky's a hunny!

I tried the paint brush, but prefers q-tips or just a pair of tweezers. I used the tweezers to grab a hold of the anther, carry it over to another vine, rub the anther on the stigma of the host plant.
On this particular vine, I had pollenated it with its own pollen, the pollen from P. vitifolia, P. 'Byron Beauty', P. belotti, and P. incarnata. The only flower to produce a fruit is the result of pollenating with P. incarnata.
Hey have you seen the fruit of P. vitifolia? The vine I sent you had a few, but were damaged when we had the frost in Jan. It is similar to the fruit of a P. cocinea, except it isn't round. I have one here from cross pollenating with P. incarnata.
ok ya'll know how much i luv them flowers-i want one!!!
i have 2 now that the one lisa sent is growing!!!!AMEN!
save me one!

dori,
i'm rooting a p. 'lavender lady' for you, will know if 3-4 wks, one p. incarnata has been reserved for you.
Hi all,
I have a seedling of P. Alata but it isn't growing very well. Is there a certain type of soil, or in the gtound (as mine is)?
I'm new to this, but I have several vines I grew from seeds.
None of them are blooming except a wild one I got from a from somewhere?.
All you with those Passion vines......may I have a small cutting please......will be willing to pay postage.
Thanks
I just hate asking for things....not my nature but I do love vines...all sorts of vines...vines of any kind.

how old is the seedling? my seedlings are 8 months old and they are no where close to flowering stage. just give them time, i'm sure they will flower for you.
regarding to type of soil, i use a mixture of peat, perlite, potting soil, and sand/soil conditioner.
Thanks K'ht' and GA for my first passiflora. Here in Michigan the weather is still unpredictable and iffy at night and my first little baby will be safe and sound inside with me overnight until the night temps are warmer.I'm terribly excited for nicer weather to get him out and goin' on my fence. I love vines and had planted the usual ones around. Well let me tell you, that the minute this little guy arrived a couple of other types of ordinary vines were moved so he can have one of the prime spots of fence and sun :)
Sandy(now I'm done lurking..)
Speaking of Passifloras.....and you were.....how do you guys get them to root? I've received some nice cuttings in the past, but never got roots! all dead.... (I even used an enclosed terrarium-type environment)!!
I have a question. How do you get them to grow? I have a small plant some one sent me last year.I made it it's very own trellis ,gave it good soil, kept it in a south facing window all winter. All I get is spindly little shoots, with few leaves, that grow about 2 feet and dieback and new shoots come out from the base of the plant and I start all over again. What am I doing wrong? I did have a slight problem this winter with spidermites, but took care of that quick. And for some reason my peacocks have taken an interest in some of my plants.I can blame them for the loss of 2 shoots. But from listening to you talking there is something I'm doing wrong HELP!!! Is this plant just not healthy?Should I start over with a new plant?Should I fertilize more? Its outside for the summer-I'm still waiting for that 35 feet of growth ,heck ,I'd be happy with 3 feet of growth.Any suggestions???
So KHT>..you mean you start them in water in a pop bottle...like a 2 liter bottle - not cut or anything....makes sense, keeps the humidity in? And they truly *do* root for you in water?? Do you do this indoors or outdoors or both? Do they like the heat to root, as well?
Out in a field beyond my back yard there is a whole field of them. Tim sent me instructions on how to get cuttings and I am getting around to it soon. Could you say we have a passion for a passion. Jim
hey Jim, pass those instructions this way, please sir!
Hello Passiflora owners,
In the fall when everyone is taking cuttings will you please put me on your lists for trades. Now that I have a greenhouse I am going to try to start a home-based business, specializing in tropicals.Specifically passiflora and brugs. My social security disability barely lets me eeekk out a very modest living, and a little extra income would drastically improve my life. Since Uncle Sam has finally passed a law allowing us to have an extra income

Just emailed you with the request.

Check out Myles' page, http://www.passionflow.co.uk
he also offers instructions on rooting cuttings http://www.passionflow.co.uk/cuts.htm
Karma, for the stupid among us (me, anyway), could you explain about the pop botles? Are you tenting them with a pop bottle, or are you just using the pop bottle like a vase? Judt want to make sure I'm clear on this, what with Tim's fishtank and all.

Well...everyone enjoying passion flowere except me. My plants are only 3-5 months old, except incarnata, which bloomed 3 blossoms. I thought it was a p.incense, but no such luck.
Oh well, maybe someday!
Everyone keep posting pictures so I can enjoy your flowers.
