Plumeria Slaughter Pink

Corpus Christi, TX(Zone 9a)

Here is a photo of my Slaughter Pink plumeria. I have a burgandy one (no name) that is sending up a bloom spike now and an Aztec Gold that is doing nothing but attracting bugs.

Such a beautiful bloom on your Plumeria. How could they name it "Slaughter" Pink??? Such a negative and dreadful connotation for such a lovely blossom.

Please post your burgundy one and your Aztec Gold too. Does the Plumeria that is burgundy have the dark red leaves or is just the flower that color? Do all Plumeria have dark green strap leaves?

I bought hte burgandy one at the Plumeria Society sale in 2001. However, the grower was in the hospital and her daughter didn't have information as to named variety. Got the Aztec Gold at last year's sale and it has been a huge disappointment. When the burgandy one opens I will post its pics. It has dark green leaves.

This is my understanding of the name "Slaughter Pink".
It was from a seedling grown by Edward Courtade.Sr. Mr.Courtade got the seeds by way of Mrs. Willis Slaughter. The seeds came from Indosesia. The plumeria name was given to Elizabeth Thorton when she was writing her book about plumerias to identify the plumeria.

Thanks for the background information. The name definitely makes sense once you understand the history behind the beautiful Plumeria.

That is a beautiful flower cluster, I will be waiting to see the burgandy blooms. Mine are almost through blooming. The yellow looks like it has a few more blooms that will open later.

Too bad they didn't call it 'Mrs. Slaughter's Pink'. Lots of roses & oleanders are Mrs. so-and-so. Sounds nicer than imagining someone digging up a plant outside a slaughterhouse!

Ronna, your right that does sound so much better!!
