What lovely flowers! They do look a lot like an orchid. I don't believe I have ever seen that plant for sale around here or seen it growing anywhere. Thanks for posting it. I'll be it looks great in the garden.

The flowers are about an inch long, but there are many of them on the flower stalk. The blooms last a long time. They are especially enjoyed close up where you can see the individual blooms, but they are beautiful at a distance too with the lavendar outsides of the flowers. I'll have to take a photo of the side view. I bought this plant at a Home Depot in the spring of 2002 not really knowing what it was. During the last year, it has become very popular. I would send you some seeds, but I think the seeds are sterile. The foliage is beautiful by itself with their deep purple undersides.

The latest rumor is that Home Depot might be taking up residence here in Jax. If they do I'll watch for Mona Lavendar. Thanks for the offer of the seeds. Too bad they are sterile. A very beautiful plant.

I love this plant and I am happy that they are doing well for you. I have to worry about freezes here, so I have mine in containers so I can bring them in during nights when we have have hard freezes. I wish that I was brave enough to plant them in the ground. By the way, they root very easily and quickly from cuttings. I did not even have to use a root stimulator. When my big old dog broke a stem off, I stuck it in a container with potting soil and kept it moist for a while. When I trimmed them back this spring to encourage fullness, I started many new plants and shared them with others. Thanks for your comments.
