Indoor water gardens

Zephyrhills, FL

I will be starting an indoor water garden soon (along with my outdoor hummingbird/butterfly garden) and wonder if anyone else has done something like this. I have a room that is supposed to be a formal livingroom/diningroom area that I want to turn into a large plant room with a huge wall waterfall. Any ideas? It's going to be a slow, long drawn out process as I want it to be just right. So give me your ideas!!

Also, any hints on Florida gardening that attracts birds, hummingbirds, butterflies and any other wildlife would be greatly appreciated. We live on a conservation lot and have already seen an armadillo, a raccoon, an alligator, lots of turtles and a deer (a buck) as well as all kinds of water fowl and hawks....anyway, your suggestions are more than welcome!!!

Note: watelillies do not like "action water" aka waterfalls. Sad but true. What's your lighting like? This will determine what lilies will/won't work. Koi or Goldfish? If you want waterlillies, stick with goldfish. You may want/need to do a lot of research. Goodluck with your endeavors...I just hope it turns out enchanting and not a mess.

Can I ask why if you want waterlilies you should stick with goldfish?

Koi tend to be more destructive to plants than goldfish are, but my goldfish eat anything that isn't nailed down. Maybe plan a section for fish and a section for plants, that's what I did with my outside pond.
My friend bought a big old warehouse to put his computer business in. We are planning to build an indoor pond and waterfall in one corner, but we aren't even started yet.
The thing I would be most cautious of is the weight of the water-8+ pounds per gallon. It is a decimal, I can never remember exactly. Anyway, I have aquaria as well as my pond and I always just round up to 10 pounds per gallon to be safe. I figure that helps count for the weight of the glass and gravel too. How big a pond are you planning? Is the floor at ground level or will you have to worry about it falling through?

Also be warned about evaporation- it can rot your house. Post pictures when you're done!
