........Yesterday whilst tooling around the peacefull back roads in Wisconsin,I spotted something that almost made me leave the road with my scooter.
....
........IN A Ditch about 6 or more Dats.I have never seen one except in photos, but am 99% sure that is what they are.Bushy plants with large white up-facing trumpets.
............
..........Now the question ,considering the time of year... if it would be worth it to drive my gas guzzler back there to resque some or all of them? {about a 80 mile round trip}
...
........Can they be potted and let go dormant in my cellar?
I don't have room to get somthing else over-wintered in the house,
...Any input???
......SB
Ditch Dats
Just my expeience but i tried to move some in my yard and they died , Probably because they are annuals may be a wiser more expert dat lover will come a long and give you better advice tonight
u can dig the plant and pot it. better yet, if u find seed pods that are brown in color, pick them. it will assure u some datura plant for next year. be careful, bring glove cause they are prickly.
if it has white flower and are fragrant in the evening or early morning, they probably are D. inoxia. these variety will come back from root zone if over wintered indoors. hth.
Thanks MaVieRose,
.........I did not think of that,it was such a surprise to see them....I figure some one did garden cleaning and they washed down the gully.
...........On top of that ....seed gathering can be done on my economy 2 wheeled vehicle...lol
Thanks Again,

when transplanting any kind of plant, take off some of the bigger leaves --- to compensate for the severed roots. give a drink of 1 gal. water to 1 tbsp. B1 solution. i have always done this, so far plant didn't seem to mind being repotted.
u're welcome SB. if u can, when u uprooted the plant, place in a container with above solution of water and B to avoid the plant from drying up.good luck.
MaVie, do you ever get any sleep. I noticed you were on here in the wee hrs. this morning and off and on today. You need your rest to regain your strength. Take it easy, girl.
Sylvia, do not worry about me. thanks for the concern though. i always listen to my body. if i am tired i go lie down and nap. then i am good again for a few hours. then rest again if need be :)!
i do not know if u are in the same age bracket as i am. once one reaches a certain stage in life, sleep is not a necessary commodity... only enough rest to keep the body going is what counts. thanks!!!
mavie,
....What is B1 solution? This is always so vague,Jerry Baker recommends it also but there is no standard B1 to begin with??

Scoot,we will make sure you have plenty of Inoxia to fill a bed,so don't worry if you do not get seeds, they will be around!
PS,do take a ride back about dark to smell them!

SB, B1 solution is used to prevent plants from being shock during transplanting time. u can buy B1 at Home Depot or Walmart. B1 is similar to Shultz Starter Plus [transplanting solution. B1 is also commonly known as Vitamin B1. go to the nursery department of both store and u will find them amongst the different fertilizers they sell. the price isn't too bad either. i always buy the gallon container cause i use it a lot in propagating or transplanting. if u don't find it, always ask the store clerks, am sure they will be more than willing to help. i hope i answered ur question.
Wellll.........hmmmmm...errrrr,
.......(( I don't think so... me crawling around in a deep ditch, in the middle of no where, gettin' dark out,not a good picture....lol .Sure would like to get a whiff but all things come in time.
......You are right ,I will wait for the springtime begging and groveling season >^,,^< SB
Thanks mavie,I was thinking along the line of the human form of B1....now I know...
Thanks,SB
