Hi everyone! TwinLakesChef has a wonderful idea for the folks who participated in the two Japanese Morning Glory Co-ops over the past year.
So many of you received Japanese MG's and have shared wonderful pictures. I know several of us have succeeded with some varieties, not with others. Soooo, here's the plan - she has a list of the JP MG Class of 2002 and 2003 Alumni (you know who you are) and is going to compile a list of Alumni who respond with seeds to trade. So, if you have Japanese MG's from these co-ops to trade, send her a list of the ones you have to trade. Trades should be 5 - 10 seeds, depending on how many you harvest.
Once the list of Alumni traders is completed, she'll send a list of those who have trades and will distribute to the Alumni who responded. This will give people a chance to trade for ones that each person wants. The trades will be direct between individuals on a first come, first beg basis. Our involvement ends here - except to beg for varieties we absolutely must get for next year! :-). Psst - TLC definitely has a few that she really wants, so let's be generous and share what we have!
Possibility here, if you trade for what you want next year, it might leave open slots in the upcoming co-op for newcomers and those who missed the first two rounds. Myself, I know that if I can get a few of the ones I really want, I'll order fewer in the co-op.
Let's sweeten the deal for everyone by posting pictures of what we have to trade, by name.
Yes, this has been a terrible season in many respects and many don't have harvest seeds yet - so the deadline for responding is several weeks out, giving you a chance to figure out what you have to trade.
Soooooooo, figure out what you have to spare, what you want and send the names to TWINLAKESCHEF. Give her a week or so to compile and she'll send out trading inventories. Don't forget to include the names of your seeds.
DEADLINE FOR RESPONDING WITH YOUR TRADE LIST IS SUNDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2003.
Let the fun begin!!

2002/2003 Japanese MG Alumni Trade
Sandra,
I hate to say it, but the few MG I got started only gave me a few
blooms & died. We had a really
hot & wet spring & summer, I guess that is why MG died. Good
news is!! I still have seeds I
did not get start for next year.
I kicked myself all spring for not starting them all start, by
June I was so happy that I had seeds for ths coming spring!!!!
Honeybee
Sandy, I started some of mine, but most died before they got big enough to transplant outdoors. Luckily I have some left to try again in the spring, so sorry I can't join you guys here! Doris
Many people have emailed me so maybe there will be some trading. Most of mine bloomed and I am now waiting for the seed. We will do the best we can and then move on from there!
It IS lookin good!
Arlene - bravo!!! I won't be able to give you a full list for at least another couple of weeks - but, these are the ones I have the best chance of harvesting, especially the moonflowers (which I have hundreds of).
To answer your earlier question about it getting cold, the seeds should be fine; more of a problem is too much rain and getting moldy. In fact, I have a huge display of Grandpa Ott's that I didn't plant, they self-sowed from last year.
Oh, good, Sbarr!
This is gonna go; I have been busy collecting the info people have sent me and putting it in a spread sheet which will go to all.
Be sure to give me:
DG Name
Email
Real name
Address
telephone number
name of MG
and how many trades you have of each
I will email each of you so you can make your own contacts and trades.
Arlene, I trýed to e-maýl you but was unsuccessfull....
I wasnt ablt to plant any becuase of my move, but am plannýng on plantýng them next year and wýll defýnately harvest seeds to share wýth everyone.
cheers
pebble, that'll be great. DG is truly making us global, we'll jave Japanese MG's in America, Turkey, etc.
LOL Pebble,
received that email 5 times and did reply to thank you for letting me know. Still have a lot of people to hear from but many lost them to inclement weather, goats eating them etc.
We will be a small group of traders but that may still help free up the co-op in the Spring.
I'll have a few to trade, hopefully more as they are still blooming. Seems the ones with the most flowers produce the fewest seed pods.
Still waiting to hear from 24 other people but they do have til Mid October to let me know.
Arlene - maybe give it another week and if you have ppl. that haven't responded, maybe you can send a courtesy mail and let them know in case they didn't see the posting.
Catlady - I have the same problem, but hopefully I can eek out a few pods for trade. It took until NOW for one to really start blooming, but they're not podding as reliably as the others.
Well, we do have a few weeks left. Think I will try to lift some of the smaller more maneagable ones into pots
and bring inside. Have nothing to lose on those as they never did bloom.
My best bloomers were:
Beni (bright fuscia pink with white center)
Murasaki (deep crinkly purple)
Tiuyu (pale blue with white spokes)
Momo (pink with white spokes)
Kaori (White with bright pink center)
Mai (white/pink striped)
A Close second was:
Haru (Pink with white center)
Yosooi (Pink with white center and white edges)
Umi Sea (Deep blue with white center)
Got all of 2 or three blooms of:
Heian Izumi (lavender crinkly)
Seiryu (White/Blue Striped)
Twilight Dance (pink/whte stripe)
Giant Shiraki (pure white)
Maybe one of:
Hanahubuki (bright pink with white striations)
where is the list of names from the first co-op? I got some from John, and have the description on the tag, but not the name.
tig
I made a master list which I will email if you will send
me your email addy.
I have it in a word file.
TLC - Let me know if you're interested in Heian Izumi - I'm probably getting about 4-8 blooms a day with this one. Seedpods are slow to develop, but if I can get them to take, I should have a good supply.
I am still holding out to see what I have with this weather. I just won't be able to fuss with them in pots in the house. I may miss the boat on this one since my baby is due in a month. . . Arlene -- I'll keep you posted.
Thanks Alyssum and please keep me posted about the baby!
Someone emailed me and said even after the frost kills them off you can still collect seed so I am keeping my
fingers crossed.
The few that I have leftover that I did not plant will
be guarded with my life. LOL
Also people are listing with me regular MG's that they would be able to trade. We just need to wait a little longer to see how it goes.
The list went out today to those who wished to participate.
Hopefully we will have better luck next year.
Thanks to all who cooperated.
I'd love to try and start one, so if anyone ever has a few seeds, please let me know.
Spacecowgirl,
The only one that set seed for me was the mystery one gathered outside the Imperial Palace. I will be offering up seeds for SASE in the next few weeks. keep an eye on the seed trading forum
