I can't believe I still have a hummer here

I was sure they had all left on Sept 8 & then on the 16th I finally took my feeder down. Wouldn't you know that one would show up on the 17th. So out comes the feeder again. Then I didn't see him again. Now he shows up again today. Actually saw him 7 times today & almost got hit in the head 3 times when I popped up out of the flower bed too fast. Gosh I hope he leaves soon as it is getting quite cold at night & supposed to pour rain for the next four days. I really want to clean out my flower beds but have decided to keep them going as long as I can as this little guy sure is busy. I have NEVER had a hummer here this late. He/she sure is a chubby little thing though.

Pretty soon there won't be much left to eat and the little bugger won't have a choice but to leave.

Broots, send him down my way. I'll fatten him up and then send him south. For the last month or so, I appear to get a new batch of hummers every 5-7 days that stay a few days to play and eat before moving on. Nat

Nat & BG, he's finally on his way. Left on the 24th. I was beginning to get a little worried when he was sticking around for so long. He wouldn't go to the feeder just wanted the nectar from the salvia & nicotiana. I'm telling you, he was so fat I was surprised he could get his little butt off the ground. Now I can get busy & clean out my flower beds. Calling for some snow on Mon or Tues. Yuck.

I am so excited!! I just started planting my hummingbird garden and can't wait for them to show up. Of course, I'm sure I will be totally disappointed this year because this area sure is not planted for hummingbirds, but maybe I will get lucky. At least I know I will get tons of butterflies because even though there are really no flowers in my yard, I still see plenty of them. Send those hummers down my way!! Tell them I am ready and waiting and have lots of good stuff for them!!! :)

Tampasal I wish you all the luck with your hummer garden & I would put up a hummer feeder too as this helps if your plants don't happen to be in bloom when they arrive. It is amazing how the first time you see one in your yard how it just makes your day & you grin from ear to ear. They really LOVE salvia.
