Have you had much luck with 'Starfire'? I have tried it in several different spots and it never amounts to much. My other phlox go gangbusters but not this one.....
Can't tell yet. All the phlox I put in this spring were slow first because of the cold & rain. Then the extreme heat & drought lasted for 2 months. All of them are stunted--so were the new Orientals I put in last fall. Even my established old pinks and White Davids were only 3 foot tall this year. nice big heads, just short. On the other hand, no rust on any otf them this year.
The rest of my phlox got 4-5 feet tall as usual but they all had powdery mildew. Most of my plants got powdery mildew this year. Heck, I think I got powdery mildew this year....there was so much rain.
Yeah, you got our share of rain. Mine had no mildew at all- do you think the 2 month drought was a factor?? But stunted. The drought was broken by an all day rain--3.5 inches all soaked in. My phlox are blooming better now than they did all summer.
Wanda we got over 11" in August (new record), over 7" so far in September (second wettest Sept. in history) and are more than 12" over for the year, not to mention all the other wet months in 2003. I think we got your rain and somebody else's too.
Well, I guess you can have a pond about anywhere in Ohio now, huh? You need to change your name--maybe it's your fault! God loves a good joke! LOL
I guess I could change it to 2MuchH2O but I don't want to tempt fate....my neighbor says things even out over time which he says means we have a monster drought coming.
Sounds like Iowa. Same average precipitation each year. If we have a drought in the summer, get the snow shovel out!!!
