The sky has been looking a little odd all day, but now it has gone like twilight (only 5.30pm) and the wind is whooshing about. The lime keys from the street trees are helicoptering like mad - but up as well as down lol!
.....and we've got the first rain for a VERY long time, Horizontal stair rods :)
More like Hallowe'en than september!!
Wild autumn at last
A lot of my pots went over yesterday in the winds, smashed some of them, been a bit complacent about things with all this nice calm weather.
My brugmansias fell off the wall and were rolling all over the patio, dahlias in pots were strewn everywhere,a sorry sight to see.
mind you. it was nice to see a bit of rain, though we had more dark clouds here rather than actual water!!
I've got a stags horn up the garden, the leaves are going a beautiful scarlet . but falling as fast as they turn,so at least the lawns a nice colour.
We got a much needed bit of rain - the grass is now a "wet" straw colour :)
Can't believe we haven't had a hosepipe ban - the water table must be very low looking at the state of the trees.
it was a very still 2c last night. That was much to close for comfort for my Pelargonium and Nerine collection.
I did read recently that Pelargoniums are supposed to be fully hardy in Zone 8 but I wont be taking the chance of leaving them out. They have a winter holiday home to go to which is heated all winter.
Yes, sue it's so easy to forget what autumn can bring with it. Since that evening I've spent two glorious sunny days dormousing in Sussex, but the night temperature has dropped like a stone and it must have been only a little over freezing, despite the warm days.
LOL Rosalia, lawns all over the southeast must have been that 'wet straw colour' - I love your description
Yes mark, my pelargoniums often survive freezing conditions in the autumn and winter, but die in the spring frosts. I haven't worked that one out yet - perhaps their sap is getting moving then and they are more susceptible... ?
