Newest Pond

Clatskanie, OR(Zone 8a)

Here is a shot of my most recent above ground pond, just finised it yeterday, Saturday, 9-20-03. Wood sides with steel post driven into the ground for side support but need to add a cross brace to keep the sides from bulging. It is 53"W x 152"L x 24"D, with rubber pond liner,732 gallons. This will hold my Koi as soon as the water warms and becomes stable.

Very nice. Your Koi will love it. And you can pull up a chair and look right into it and watch the Koi.

Hey....that pond looks familiar!! That looks alot
like our pond, except we have 1/2 of ours sunk.
Gotta get busy and finish the top off...would be
nice to sit on the edge and dangle the toes in the
water ;~) Ours is pretty bare around the outside
as well-will have to plant some of the beauties
I received from Dave's around it. :)

Nice! How many Koi will it house?

I have six 8+ inch kois in it now and about 30 baby koi anywhere from 2 to 4 inches. Next summer I will remove the babies for sale and leave the big ones in it, which will be plenty for the size of the pond as they grow larger. I am hoping they will spawan again next spring as 2 or 3 of them did this spring to my surprise.

Here is some of my fish, large Koi, Shubunkins and Goldfish. They are in a 600 gal. round stock tank set into the ground.

How do you keep the larger fish from eating the small ones?

They are really beautiful!

Once the fry become large enough to resemble fish, the adult fish will not bother them. So the eggs have to be hatched in a seperate tank and held there for about 3 months or so.

I like your pond.

Your pond looks really nice. I like the way it is elevated above ground level and I like that ledge. I also like the exposed wood effect. Such a welcome change from so many ponds (like mine) that are edged with slate or brick or cultured stone. Your wood willl probably weather out very nicely into that barnwood gray. Where have you hidden your pond accessories? I have no doubt you have filters and pumps because your water is so nice and clear.
