Rylaff, I love those! This has been a great year for ee's and bananas. I am just right down the road from you.

Niceville, FL(Zone 8b)

You sure are! And you are right, it has been a great year for anything tropical. My bananas are happy campers too.

Are your ears Xanthosoma? Impressive!!

Niceville, FL(Zone 8b)

Yes, indeed, they are xanthosoma. This is the first year they have bloomed too. Lots of blooms.

This is my first year with the X's, but I have truly enjoyed the Alocasias and Colocasias for a few years. What is it about those HUGE leaves?? LOL I guess they are kind of staple plants in your part, but up in here, they are standout tropicals, well about as close as you can get in looks and size. Then we have to drag them all in.....sigh.

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

rylaff, my ee's have bloomed like crazy...can we grow them from seed? I have saved mine to trade if they will grow..If you are ever down this way, come on by!

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

hi girls, yes, it was a huge year for the ears! all the rain we had this year was good for something other than skeeters.

weeds, when my first flower came out my EE I let the white seeds turn to a very plump red. I broke the seeds and thought I had messed up. The seeds were not dried up like other seeds, but plump. So I just tossed them in my flower bed. I forgot about them...until last week. 2 baby EE's came up! I don't know if I could do it if I tried..lol..but I do have baby EE's from seed!

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

hmmm Lisa, I will have to try that, I was leaving them on til they dried. Having so clue. I will try it, mine are blooming like crazy.

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Oh my....I am dying here. Those ee's and banana's are so beautiful. We don't have the climate here in Oklahoma like you do there, but I'm going to give them a try anyway. I just love anything tropical looking! Thanks for sharing, and giving me confidence! LOL Brinda :)

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Thanks rylaff. I've never seen an elephant ear bloom
before.

Hey rylaff, nice ears!!! I bought my 1st xan @ a garden show this spring. I read that they only bloom in zone 10, but mine bloomed like crazy!! Thought I was doing something wrong! The blooms smelled like butterscotch..Is that weird? It really has been my favorite trop. this year & 7ft tall!Amazing plants, huh? Do you think I need to dig it up for winter?

Olympia, WA

I am so jealous I can hardly stand it!!!!!! Wish there was some way to get one of those monster EE's to cast in concrete - in as much as I seem to be totally obsessed w/ this activity. Yes - I have Gunnera - LOL - but I don't have EEs of those dimensions!!!!
