Isnīt it a Bauhinia?
I don't think so [neither does Selby Botanical Garden, which is where I got the ID]. The flower actually looks like a miniature Bombax cieba [or ceiba] flower. Some well-meaning sole screwed up the common names, also.
The bi-leaflets leaf made me think it was a Bauhinia. Shouldnīt it have palmate leaves?
I just found pictures on the University of Hawaii website of Bombax glabra, and other nursery websites featuring a completely different plant. Take a look:

I got fooled by the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Gardenīs identification of some plants more than once...
You are absolutely right. Sorry, sorry, sorry. The correct ID is Bauhinia galpinii. I informed the site of my error [cringe] so maybe they will correct it soon.
I bought a plant with similar flowers. I was told it's a Bauhinia galpinii - but it has a different shape leaves ( oblong / lanceolate). Do you what plant this could be?
I bought this as medium shrub and it is now 20" tall x 10" wide and I am ready to take it out as it has totally overwhelmed the space.
