This is a photo taken a couple of days ago of some of my 2003 brug sdlgs after putting them in the GH under the HID light. Aren't they terrible looking. They really look quite nice and green but the HID light is so bright and yellow that that is how the look in a photo. Donna
HID light effects
They look healthy, just yellow, like they need a dose of epsom salts. Guess those lights are really something for growing plants. I may try to get one.
Please cure my ignorance--what is HID?
aViolaBird, I'm sorry I don't know what HID stands for. They are High Intensity lights. The one I have i got from Charley's and it has an effective growing area or 10 x 10feet. Mine should probably be placed farther from the wall than it is. I am losing some growth area for that reason. I use a replacement bulb of 400 watts (50.000 lumens) They the light bulbs are expensive $44.95, but one lasts about a year for the amount of time I use it. Donna
Halide(sp)? They are very expensive, but really make things grow, bright like sunlight. Somone who has one will have to tell you more.
I believe it stands for High Intensity Discharge
for the price of them I think it stands for Higher Increased Debt
high intensity discharge is correct and while they do make a dint in the piggy bank for those of us who put up with 7 hours of daylight from november to february they are essential (and actually about 25% cheaper to operate than the equivalent wattage of fluorescent fixtures). Also if you want primarily vegetative growth go for the clear bulb if you want to promote flowering go for the coated. This year I will have one of each - oh, boy 2000 watts an hour for 14 hours a day. The electrical company will love me and the mounties will be paying me a visit.
And halide are MH or metal halide. Similar results. All the marijuana growers use these lights for indoor growing because they are efficient if placed right. Plants look yellow but when put in natural sunlight they look great. (the brugs of course).
From what we were taught in GH class, all of these cultivation systems were perfected by the marijuana industry. You probably wouldn't be able to buy any of the stuff if it weren't for prohibition. Everything is so expensive partly because pot growers can afford the electricity and lights as a business expense.
Wow, what we learned today. Only plan on growing but my tropical plants, no pot.
Thanks for all the info.-now I'll know what I'm asking about
:))
