46 pound naked lady!
Wow! I would like several but I don't have anything to offer yet. What would you like for a few of the larger ones and several of the smaller ones. $? Postage? I'm stll just getting started but the naked ladies are one of my favorite flowers. Please let me know what you would like and I'll try to accomodate you.HEHEHE Thanks
Jan
Dear George, I am new to gardening too, so I don't have anything to trade but will pay what you think is fair for (4 ) half- pound bulbs.
What color is the flower on the Canna?
I would love to get some of those but let me ask you a question.
In another naked ladies post you mention that they should be planted after last frost. Now we will not get frost here for about another 6 week's maybe 8, so if I plant them outside now will they be o.k.?

Here is the listing in plantsdatabase http://plantsdatabase.com/go/2377/ looks like most of the comments are from those of us on the West Coast without snow. Listing says good to 5a and I see a success in Chicago. These bulbs seem to be very hardy. http://hgic.clemson.edu/PDF/hgic1156.pdf from Clemson Univ (S.C.) says "hardy with a mulch" http://www.brucezimmerman.com/ARTICLES/SUMMER_BULB_STORAGE.htm says store at 55 to 70. I'm afraid I don't have any cold weather experience - 50 is cold out here.
George
Come visit your Grandpa's homestead in January!! ;~)
Too cold! Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
I responded via email. Thanks, George.
George--love your posting! Made me pause & peek...LOL
Thought I was looking at a headline for "The Star," you know, Woman Has Alien's Baby, Elvis Visits Local Museum, stuff like that. Must admit, it made me look too! LOL :~D

The key to advertising - Now I have to learn how to set the hook.
Anyone interested in them for postage? Priority mail will cost you $4 for 1 pound - go to http://pe.usps.gov/text/dmm/r100.htm#Rfz20164 for the higher poundage. I can get about 4 lbs in the USPS 6" cube.
George-I'll take 3 lbs if you have them left. Brenda
George, What is your zip code so we can figure postage? Course I guess I should ask if you still have any left first. :) Pam
And here I thought you were trading an unclothed midget.
>;-0
No midgets here, but she is very slim.
If you think it will be acceptable to put some naked ladies in a new bed in front of the priest's house I'll ask for a box full. :-) You have mail. They will be next to a bed of Sacred Holy Trinity Iris plants I just won on eBay. ROFL Padre
*snicker snort* - George, it's all in the marketing. Now you're sellin' them to a priest!
Padre, you could complete the bed with
Devil's Trumpet (Datura)
Jack in the Pulpit (Arisaema)
Prayer Plant (Maranta)
Naked Weed or Devis's Grass (Chondrilla)
and protect them all with
Angel's Trumpet (Brugmansia)
Bishop's Weed (Aegopodium)
Very clever, George. Padre, I think you should create that "holy" garden!

Hmmmmmmmm, maybe I shouldn't offer to send a few eyes of my Lucifer canna. It was my favorite this year, next to Australia, of course.
Padre - The Belladonna lily is a bona fide Mary Garden plant. Call it the Belladonna Lily and look appalled if anyone calls it anything different. LOL!
;-)
I just bought some for my Mary Garden (wish I had waited ...)
Cheri'
They will be surrounded by Angel Trumpets :-) and fig leaves :-)
Padre,And how about Heavenly Blue morning glory and Lucifer crocosmia, ST. Josephs lily, Prayer Plant, Jacobs ladder, etc...
George, I would like three lbs if you have any left. Thanks
I would like 4 pounds. I have a few things I can trade, just let me look around a bit. I know I have several cannas I could send or I can send you a list of different things if you don't like cannas. LMK
George, did you get my e-mail?
I'd like about 4 1/4lb bulbs if that is big enough to bloom. I only have ajuga and obedient plant to trade (still) or will pay postage. Please e-mail me
Mine came today and they are Huge!! They were in perfect condition, thanks George!
Mine too bamasharon. I've never seen bulbs so big. So anxious to see the blooms next year too.
George, I got mine today. I'm at work so I haven't had a chance to see these beauties but I'm sure they're fine. I noticed the postage was a little more than I sent you. I will be mailing the diff. out to you asap!!! And thank you again for being so generous!!!! George, I looked at my bulbs today and I thought they were turnips- that's how huge they are!!! I will be sending the diff. in the s&h asap. Thanks again!!!!

got mine today, too. HUGE does not describe them! Thank you soooooo much for sharing these with me.
Cheri'
You are all very welcome. Too bad they are edible, we could have quite a feast. Guess we will just have to let our eyes do the feasting.
My Naked Ladies arrived today. George, they are huge !!!!
Thanks so much for sharing these. To say I'm pleased would be an understatement.
George, I am not sure where I want to plant these, can I put them in a pot and overwinter them in my garage? Thanks for any help you can give me.
Don't ask me, it never rains in sunny California!
Just kidding, but really I have Hibiscus in the ground year round, so my "cool" weather experience is nil.
For sure they would do well potted and kept in the garage, but I think they may do fine in the ground. See the plants database listing http://plantsdatabase.com/go/2377/ There is a Note from Zone 4 that says it came up from under the compost bin and another site states "mulch well"
I found one more reference at dutchbulbs.com
"Choose a sunny, well-drained location. Dig to a depth of 12-15" and enrich the soil with organic matter. Replace about 9" of soil and plant the bulbs 4-6" apart. (In Zones 9-10, plant bulbs only 1-2" deep). They do not like to be disturbed once planted. May be grown indoors as a potted plant with the culture the same as Hippeastrum (see Indoor Bulbs). Hardy in Zones 7-10."
So I woulld think you put them in the ground about 4" deep and mulch over the winter.
