Echeveria 'Crinoline'
What a pretty plant! I love the crinkly edges of the leaves. And the blooms are neat too. Does this set seeds? Thanks for posting it.
Hi roshana -
I've never tried to collect the seeds from this Ech. The flowers last several months (see http://plantsdatabase.com/showpicture/26292/ )and really sap the strength of the plant. I cut the flowers back last week and tossed them in the green waste can.
"Just say no!" is my new mantra......I finally figured out why I do few seeds. Gardening here is a 365 day a year operation and just keeping up with the day to day is daunting. There is not that long winter respite like in the midwest, with months to dream and plan.
I'm feeding and spraying the roses this week, a whole October flush of roses is coming on and I've got some black spot to deal with from the few foggy mornings we had a couple of weeks ago.
I'm NOT complaining......gardening all winter is much more to my liking than the cabin fever syndrome I suffered from for years living in Chicago.
Happenstance, someone's raised a question about this cultivar's name, but they posted it as a comment to the entry, and I figured you hadn't seen it yet. I've copied it here to help get the conversational ball rolling:
"Curious about where this plant was obtained in U.S. The original 'Crinoline' started life as an un-named Gibbiflora Hybrid imported by me from Dick Wrights Nursery. I named it 'Crinoline' in 1982. It grows over 15" across. A photo of same can be seen on http://www.echeveriasinoz.com./
Hi Terry -
This was purchased from a private collector with a handwritten stake which said Dick Wright's Crinoline. It's about 12" across and doesn't have the great intense color that the linked image does because I keep it out of the sun, in the greenhouse. I've burned many Echs up by putting them in our hot summer sun. It will color up when aclimated to the sun and left there during the summer.
echemaniac - Is the ID in question, cause I'm going on info obtained when I purchased it?
Thanks for the prompt reply! I've emailed "echemaniac" to make sure they're aware of this thread, and directions on how to access it so they can read and reply.
Terry
No......I was really intrigued as to how it got to U.S.A because Dick didn't have a plant called Crinoline when he had the Nursery. The Gibbiflora Hybrid that I named as such did come from him as did many plants in my collection. The plant on the website is under 50% shade cloth. I live in Qld. Australia and summers are pretty intense heat. I do have a few in full sun but the colour is paler as the sun strips it out. Would like to see yours when it is acclimatised. The leaves on mine have always been much rounder. The leaf and colouring on the one in the photo looks very much like a shade grown Mauna Loa

Evening Bev in Oz -
My guess is that the gal who sold this to me tagged it, but I had nothing else to go on and the few images available online, seemed to confirm the name.
I would agree that the leaves on mine do look more elongated, but that might be to little light...after frying several last summer, I think I was a little too protective this year. It's a balancing act between too little and fry time here.
I'm sure you know that many times these as well as other succulents look much different when pampered in a greenhouse than they do when growing in ground.
I do appreciate your input and agree that it could be Mauna Loa, so I'll leave it up to Terry to decide where my 'Crinoline' should be posted in the PDB.
Best Regards from Happenstance in California
At this point, it would seem prudent to leave it where it is, unless/until it can be positively established that it is another cultivar.
