Passiflora Nephrodes

Covington, LA(Zone 8b)

My nephrodes vine bloomed about 25 flowers today. At dawn it fills the air with the scent of cotton candy--so I've been told. At 11am you can still smell the scent faintly. This vine roots easily.

That is a beauty, Flicker. Are they big flowers?

Wow!!!

Covington, LA(Zone 8b)

I planted this vine in spring as a well rooted cutting. So this is a first year vine. The caterpillars aren't a big problem. I have other vines that they have stripped instead.

The flowers are about 2" + and seem to bloom in groups. This is the second time it's bloomed this year.

Well I guess thats another one to go on my list of wanted passies.......so pretty Flicker.
My Lavender Lady was loaded yesterday, must have been 25-30 blooms on it too......I don't notice that it has any scent and so far has not one fruit....I started polinating it by hand the same day..I'll see if that helps....have you had to do this?

Covington, LA(Zone 8b)

Hi Willow,
Most hybrid passi's don't produce good fruit at all unless cross pollinated from another vine---and then it is iffy. My lavender Lady set fruit once. I didn't ever see the ripe fruit. It must have dropped. I'm told Incense, a hybrid, maked delicious fruit if pollinated with caerulea pollin. Incense would be the mother.

Oh thanks Flicker, I keep forgetting to polinate with another varitey...thanks for the reminder...guess I have to wait until the others are flowering next year for that.......:o)

Nice! I continue to be intrigued by these vines! Can anyone recommend a website where I could learn about all of the different passifloras?
