Do YOU know about YEW?

I have a wonderful home with a 50 foot lawn that
borders a busy street. We wanted to put in a
hedge along the front of the property to block the noise
and the dust. We plan a 6' formal hedge and my
husband says "no thorns". So after much consideration
about this I have decided to plant Japanese Yew.
And by this I mean Taxus Cuspidata not that other plant
that is also called yew but is not of the same genus.

Does anyone have any experience with planting a hedge -
any experience with YEW?
or does anyone know where in I can get some directions of
how far apart to plant the plants if I can find them how deep to plant them or where I can find them?

The plant choices in the gardening books do not match what is present in the stores.
