I have a new kind of bug!!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I first saw them on the inside of one of my hibiscus blooms. I thought the were black aphids. I sprayed them with Neem and they flew off. Then tonight they actually have the nerve to be inside my Rosamond brug. They are tiny, black, have wings that are good sized for their little body and when you go to squish them with your fingers they drop so you can't get them. Then the fly off. I could not kill any of them.

Any ideas? foe?

look like flying ants to me, but i'm just a novice. i think bugs are evolving much faster than anything in our particular evolutionary branch!

I might could help ya identify them kell if I could just get a closer look at them. I can't tell from lookin at your photo.
But that's one beautiful shot of your bloom!

Dang it Kell,it is late and I read faster then the mind works!!!

I thought you said,I have a new kind of Brug!LOL!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I wish Root! LOL. A buggy brug, I am sure every one will beg for cuttings! Some people get double pinks, I get buggy brugs. And the bugs are not even pink!

Does zooming in help? We shall see.

Well that was a dismal failure. How about this try?

It worked! LOL. 2 of them are playing hanky panky! And look at the gobs of pollen on the stigma when you enlarge the pic.

I've got tiny little black bugs, look like tiny, shiny spiders. Yours' look like flys? Maybe they mean no harm?

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

I think if they know whats good for em they best mean no harm on Kell's brugs!

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Are they damaging it? It looks like they might be eating the pollen. Hopefully they won't do any other damage.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I was thinking they look like tiny flies too. Any chance they are fungus gnats?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

They do look like short stubby miniature flies. A new one to me. They seems to hang out inside blooms. So far I see no damage. Maybe I will use Raid.

Be careful with that! I torqued some plants with the wasp kind once.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

torqued? twisted them????
LOL Chele, I am almost afraid to ask you.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Yep, pretty much! We have those metal feet on our porch posts that are hollow in the center. Wasps love to nest in them. I accidentally shot some plants with the wasp Raid and they twisted all up, turned black and croaked!

Kell: The blue can of raid is good to use on roses and such. It used to be called Flying Bug Killer, now of course they have renamed it, but the can is still blue. If a rose can take it, a brug should be able to.

Kell, are they knats? Or sand fleas? Tiny little bugs that really bite and aggravate the daylights out of you!
