want to be an Aloe Vera guinea pig?

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

Does anyone want an Aloe Vera plant?

My boxes finally came in, so I'm about ready to attempt to ship Aloe Vera plants. Who wants to be my guinea pig, and get the first one and let me know how it went thru?

No postage or anything on this one. DG subscriber, only.

I need to divide mine, too. It has been overflowing its pot for a year now. I'll stay posted to see how they ship, and whether anyone wants some that Sundry cannot provide!

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

djm906 never sent me an address, so Annabellegabby is next on the list. I already have your addy. LMK that you are still interested and it will go out today.

darius, I'll be sure to let you know what report I get back on this one. These are not babies, these are 2nd and 3rd year plants. I've got lots more babies, too. Are they worth the trouble of shipping out do you think?

Cheri'

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

I don't know about babies... all of mine are pretty big and there's NO room in their pot for any babies to land and root, LOL.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi Sundry,
What will the postage be on them. I will send it to you but I need your addy.
e-mail me and I will send it off today

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

LOL ok I'm your Guinea Pig Sundry. Send it on baby!!!! lol Gotta love this :-D I already emailed you in case you didnt get it.

Annabellegabby - it'll be on it's way this afternoon. I'll send you the tracking number, if you want.

Jan - I'm not sure what postage will be yet, I'll let you know when I get back from the PO what this one cost. On my bathroom scale it seems to be between 2 and 3 lbs, so that would around $7.00, but I'm not trusting my bathroom scale. LOL! I think it weighs heavy (that's my story and I'm sticking to it) ;-)
Anyway, this one is about average sized, so it should give us an idea.

darius - that's what mine looked like last year! which is why I dug them all but the grandmother plant out and planted some of them in my back bed. These that I'm getting rid of are the ones that have been out of the pot and in the garden for over a year. Now, the big pot is full of babies, and a few of these have made babies, too. I can't keep up with 'em. The babies might end up compost ... or packing material, or something.

Annabellegabby - It's on it's way to you now.

Mount Prospect, IL(Zone 5a)

Hi, I sent you my address several times. The return replies came back, that daemon mailer thingie saying address invalid. I did try. I can get your emails, but evidently my return ones couldn't get through and I didn't want you to think I ignored you.

djm906, I'm so sorry this has happened! My mail server recently installed one of those spam filter things, and I guess it's filtering you out! How un-cool is that? If you want one for postage (see the note below) I'll send you my other email addy, and see if that works. I don't know if it will, since there's a filter on that one, too. =(

That makes three times I've had this problem. Something is going to have to give. Is your email an AOL addy?

Badseed - I rarely even think about getting on the scale - no news is good news - so when I do, I guess I catch it by surprise! LOL

Everyone who said they wanted one for postage - These darn plants are heavy! Why I didn't think about this before I'll never know. Sooooo If you don't want to pay the postage to get one (assuming this experiment works) I understand. The postage on the first one was $6.85.

Tomorrow I'm going to dig up and weigh a few of the little babies, see if I can pack up two or three of those in a box for less than a pound. If so, I'll offer that as an alternative. I just hate to compost these big healthy plants ...

Sundry!!!!! Omgosh, it arrived today!!!! Wow, it's hugeeeeeee LOL, I love it and your experiment worked wonderfully...not one place was mashed, no goo...nothing. I havent ever seen one this huge. What is the exact name of this??? Its not the like the aloe's we have here, well not that I have ever seen.

Wow, this made my day, I'm on my way out to the pots and get it inside it's new home!!!!! Thank you Thank you Thank you for letting me be your Guinea Pig, Im sure you will be sending alot of this out, anyone who loves these things like do, listen up...you have to have this, its way too awesome!!!! Makes me wonder what the grandparent looked like after seeing this???? lol

God Bless

Woo Hoo! I'm so glad it arrived alive!! And I'm so glad you like it. =)

As far as I know this is a normal Aloe Vera plant. http://plantsdatabase.com/go/1367/

The grandmother plant is prolly 5 times that size, but she doesn't look so good, being crowded in her pot with her off-spring. Poor thing. I'm going to re-pot her and get rid of most of the offspring.

Your plant is at least a second year plant. Maybe third. I have a few more that size to get rid of, plus scads of first year plants and babies. Don't be surprised if it starts making babies next year. Then you can try finding homes for them, too. LOL!

I'm going to email everyone who said they were interested, and start a new thread to find homes for the rest.

Thanx for letting me know how it worked! I hope you enjoy your new plant.

Cheri'
