It is raining again, and at this time we sure don't need it. It has been an unusually wet summer for South Texas. I shouldn't complain, but our San Augustine grass is getting brown patch fungus from staying so wet. Guess I need to go to HD or Lowe's and buy a fungicide to put on it before we lose half of our lawn. The backyard is really getting bad, because all the water runs to the back, even the water from our neighbors' yard. We have a raised bed all the way across the back fence and it acts like a dam when we have a lot of rain. The grandkids call it our built in swimming pool. LOL Wish I could ship some to you people that have been dry all summer and spread the wealth. LOL
Here comes the rain - again
Minigrannie, we have FINALLY gotten some rain here is SW Wisconsin. 2.5 inches since Friday night, and this is the first "real" rain we've had since July 1st! My brugs are very happy, they got a good bath along with a good drink.
I guess I better go out and make some rain here also!
Kell, wish I could send some your way. It has stopped for now, but is supposed to rain again tonight.
I have had heavy rains, thunder and lightening for 3 days and the ground is so saturated and we definitely don't need anymore.
I know. Our backyard squishes when I walk on and the water comes up between my toes. Where exactly is Alvin. Is it close to Houston?
Also, did you get my email?
Yes, Alvin is about 25 miles south of Houston. I did get your email and I am going to get some boxes prepared today. In August I lost my father-in-law and also my stepmother and that is why I have not been around too much and am behind on everything. I apologize for not answering your email.
What a sad month for you. A family loss is sad at any time, but 2 in one month would just be terrible.
minigrannie, and all the rest of you who are getting too much rain, it sure is too bad we can't share. Here it is the dryest summer since they have been keeping records, more than 100 years. And it really shows. I here at my place had one little measurable rain about 1/10 of an inch last week, first since early June. Donna
Donna, I know what you are going through. We had problem is Iowa up until late last week when in my area, we got a little over six inches total. My rain gauge didn't record quite right because of placement, but our neighbors have one right out in the open and I believe their's must be right. It certainly was welcome rain. Now I have to mow the yard. I hope you get rain soon. It makes a lot more work for gardeners when we don't have the moisture.
We lucked out. It didn't rain last night and the sun shone bright all day today. Maybe we can get our lawn mowed now. After that, we need to put down fungicide to control the brown patch that has cropped up from staying so wet.
