what is going on here?
The dark leaf one looks like its coming out of the same tuber as the Cleopatra
I hosed it down to get all the dirt off and it looks like all one plant......
I potted it up to go in the GH,not sure if I should actually cut it away from the mama plant
Canna Sport ?
Hi Karyn,
That red is an all red foliage version 'Cleopatra'.
If you can separate off, it may stay red, stripe green, or 'Cleopatra' sports.
I have been told by growers older than me that our US Red Humbert is the all red Cleopatra.
One of my 'Red Humbert' stripes green, so possibly.
'Australia Orange' (from Australia) sometimes stripes green, also. Similar, but not exact to 'Red Humbert'.
'Sangria (all red)' is said a 'vegetative sport' of 'Cleopatra'.
Pretty much same flower as the red flower in 'Cleopatra'.
I have had the all green foliage version 'Cleopatra' bloom all yellow with speckles, to yellow with red
chimera, to one yellow speckled flower/one red flower as the striped leaf version can.
It would be interesting if your red foliage sport retains enough green influence to bloom a red
flower/yellow flower.
That would be neat (o:
One of my British friends calls this canna 'that hussy Cleopatra'.. lol
But an interesting canna for sure (o:
Alice
Thanks Guys!
I was so confused by it,but I have it potted up to go in the GH,I'll wait till its a little bigger before I seperate it
Kyle ,does it set seed or is it sterile?
CC...ya know..I never noticed before.. LOL I just love the intense colors.
Kyle, Karyn ..
I have taken this plant apart a number of times.
I never got an all red sprout. Your guys are lucky. lol
I have the green to all yellow flowers. You would not guess it Cleopatra.
Very pretty.
And a plant with striped leaves that blooms one red flower one yellow flower same stem.
Very nice.
Cleo is a neat canna (o:
Karyn, I believe Cleopatra sterile.
Mine have never produce seeds.
Gosh, that is a pretty one Alice. After looking at your site and all the cannas your guys have, I just want, want, want. So many beautiful cannas and other things too.
so many plants and so little time!
According to the men who own Plant Delight nurseries Cleopatra is a very phsycotic plant. They say that sometimes there will be different colored leaves on each side of the stalk and the flowers will be different on each side too. I saved the catalog that described it but don't know just where it is right now. I would leave it connected to see what it does in the future.
I need some advice.
I just bought 2 potted Tropicana cannas (@75% off) and I am not sure how to store them for the winter????
anyone?
